Bronco Bike LIVES again!!!
« on: May 25, 2005, 09:05:09 PM »
Bronco Bike is ALL BETTER!!

For those concerned with BB I am happy to report she was resurected today about 4:30 PM!!

If you read previous post on "Bronco Bike is Sick," you'll know why I'm so very excited!!  It appears she had a huge amount of debris/rust flakes/carbon yuck in the float bowls that could have easily clogged up carbs to the point of choking, coughing, sputtering, dying fiasco that I had to deal with last Thursday.

Today,  Gordon,  of this fair group, came over and we checked float bowls and installed 2 new in-line fuel filters AND a wonderful NEW Clutch cable and after putting her back together, we fired her right up and she purred like a kitten!!!  I had had the fuel tank acid washed, and we put a bit of gas in her, zoomed off to local Shell station to top her off!

Then we took a nice easy ride up Deer Creek Canyon and I bought dinner (it was the least I could do!!) and we zoomed back down the mountain and I had NOT ONE BIT of trouble!!  This is the FIRST time I've had Bronco Bike out that she did not splutter, die, surge, etc, etc, etc,

You cannot imagine how fun it was!! AND I turned over 16,000 miles on that ride-so it was a monumental achievement for Bronco Bike to put some miles on without breaking down on me!!!

Next I have to see why headlight is non-existant and want to buy a brighter one when I am sure the current one is getting juice.

Thanks to all who posted on the "Bronco Bike is sick" - everything was helpful and it was the first time I was brave enough to actually attempt to fix a problem.  I could not have done it without Gordon and also Jason, who helped me figure out that the fuel tank was a possible culprit in the problem of keeping BB going!!

Again, thanks for all the advice, I will keep all the posts so I can study up on various things that can cause these types of problems.  Hopefully, I won't NEED the advice, but it is really good to have it.

.....and you were going to take Bronco Bike to the dealer, who needs a dealer anyway?
The way I understand you it now runs better than it ever did when you had it at the dealer last time for carb work.
Anyway, good job!
Have fun.
As far as the headlight is concerned, I would recommend an H4 replacement. I have them on several of my bikes and the improvement is tremendous.

BTW: How are your eyes?

Dennis - Peepers are GOOD - this Lasik stuff is absolutely a Miracle!  I can see sharper now then in the past 40 years!!

I cannot recommend it highly enough!  No pain, no problems, I can read well, and see distance fabulously!  The mountains were so beautiful today - I could see each individual tree - rather than just nice green blobs moving a bit!!

I must keep them wet with drops and have 2 medicine drops that I put in 3 times a day.  The wetting drops are single dose thingys that are great to keep in pocket or purse, so I'm totally mobile.  I noticed tonight that the stars are fabulous.

I like to stitch and that is not sharp yet, but each day the close vision (which I knew would be an issue) is better and should continue to sharpen up over the next 2 weeks.  I can read, and even today, working on the bike, I was amazed at the improvement in just the past 24 hours.

And yes, I'm sooooo greatful for Gordon's help!  The Bike shop is good, but it's so wonderful to work on it myself - with significant help - and then ride off with a big grin on my face!  And believe me, BB runs better today than she has ever run since I bought her - including riding her home from BIG $$$ dealer work.

Thanks for the concern!

Dyna makes electronic ignitions which include sensors to replace the points.
The Dyna S is one style of those. I tink that it is the version which mounts under the points cover. People who use them seem quite pleased. I'm sure that they work well but they cost a bit.
I'm still using points because I don't put too many miles on my bikes and being the "more experienced" rider or wrencher that I am checking and adjusting points is not the adventure that it is for someone who did it for the first time last week.
Glad to hear that you are pleased with the results of you surgery. Getting older has meant that I now have a lot of trouble with close vision, but my distance vision, while not great (about 20-40 or 20-50) has basically remained stable. I thought that I heard that you should expect to need reading glasses after Lasik surgery. Is that incorrect?

smithi, the Dyna'S', is electronic ignition, means you get rid of the points(the do-dads, the make your spark), and fit the electronic ones, that never need replaceing, or adjusting, and get a better spark... you wont beleive the difference.. alot of ppl say they could 'feel' andy change afterwards, but i reckon my 750 revs cleaner with it than without... most ppl like them cos they never have to fiddle with them again... ever.... there should be a couple of posts in the tech forum regarding them... gald the bike is better, and that your eyes are spick and span... peace..

hmmmm - Dennis - perhaps BB needs to put these Dyna thingys on her xmas list?? Anything that wouldn't need fiddling with in the future would seem to be a good investment, as BB will probably be with me for next 25-30 years!

RE:  Reading/craft glasses - my "near" vision has been an issue for past 5-6 years, just couldn't get glasses to sharpen up that space about 10-12 inches from my nose.  Very frustrating. I actually had 3 different pairs of glasses - one for everyday, one for xstitching and one for lying in bed watching TV!  Can you imagine keeping up with all those glasses!   Right now - I seem to have good, sharp vision at 10 inches and further.  Even this computer screen at about 18inches is sharp and crisp - which is an improvement over just 24 hours ago!

I had told the Dr. that if I "had" to have glasses for stitching (I do cross stitch) that that would be acceptable to me.  He will check me next Tuesday and then we'll check again in about 30 days after that, but I'm quite hopeful as every day I get better and better, I may, in fact, not need "craft glasses."  I can read much better than before with glasses!  I can read RX prescriptions on medicine bottles and 6 pt. font already!  Again a vast improvement from before Lasik!

I just can't believe it each day, as I wake up, it's a miracle!!

Linda,

As a long time wearer of glasses myself, very near sighted, I've followed your vision progress with interest. I've heard some folks, after this surgery, have some issues with night vision and flaring. Have you experienced any of these??
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Bob-so far NO!

I too had heard that, but even Before the surgery - for the past 4 years - I've not done much night driving, as I had lots of "halos" from car headlights, and had Terrible problem with "depth perceptions."  IN fact, about 4 years ago, my son had to drive me around for wintertime real estate appointments because I simply could NOT see well enough when hunting for homes at night!

Anyway, so far, there have been NO problems.  Last night I noticed the city lights were sharp and crisp - no halos, no flaring, nothing negative!

I do Highly recommend my surgeon - Dr. Bill Hines - Eye Dr to Bronco's, Nuggets, Avs, etc. etc. and even Rockies - note:  There seems to be correlation between athletes that keep their Dr. appointments and super success...those that don't show up, tend to have VERY short careers!

Again, its a flat out miracle and I'll happily hold your hand if you want to have Lasik- I am just dumbfounded.  The worry, agonizing, scared-fear factor was 50 times worse than the actual deed!

And again, there is NO sense of sharp, pointy things near you eye during surgery-you just see some lights flickering on and off, and hear a soft buzzzzzzz--ing in brief spurts.

It's a miracle - and my DH is so impressed with my quick recovery that he's considering it too!  We both wore glasses when we met 30 years ago, and it would be quite a change, but I'm just soooo pleased with the results I HIGHLY recommend it!

Linda WHO CAN SEE!!!!

And I had worn glasses for 40 years!!!

The Dyna-S is like Lasik For you bike.......  It took about six months for my eyes to settle down after it... one week I see great , 2 weeks later it's worse..., I thought what the wide wide world of sports is goin on here.....

Chippy, yes, that happened to me yesterday.  All day just NOTHING was sharp-...far away or close up or in-between - I think eyes were just tired.  Much better today, but I'll keep your info in mind.
