Pros/Cons of Temp Gasket Fix
« on: June 16, 2014, 08:53:25 AM »
I tried this weekend to fix a head gasket leak (replaced orings, rubber pucks, and retorqued old 6 mo. old gasket) but its still leaking. Maybe even worse. I don't really want anymore downtime this summer, and the tampon trick works but I'm still losing oil.

Thinking of applying this between the head and jugs until I can deal with the leak this winter. Any reason not to?

Yes. This stuff loves to find it's way into the oil ports and then clog up the tiny orifices that feed the top end.

Oh well if you're talking about just jamming it between the fins and hoping for it to seal then probably no real harm in that other than looking like #$%*. lol

Haha yeah. Sounds dumb but that's the plan. I just want a temp fix to tide me over until the off season.

I would try permatex nonhardening instead. Any AutoZone has it

Round top carbs w/ 38 pilots, middle needle position, airscrew 7/8ths out, 122 main jet
Stock airbox w/ drop in K&N, Hooker 4-1

Don't trust me alone with a claw hammer and some pliers

I'm going to guess that the "fix" will look worse than the current solution and is not likely to be any more effective at keeping the oil in...

So it will look worse and not do any better. I'd just ride it and let it leak. As long as it's leaking you know it still has oil in it.
