cb400f - any idea when (if) honda stopped doing this?
I was planning a full resto, as authentic as possible, then replacing a few bits to cafe it.  when i grow up, i'll bolt the stock bits back on.  then i see this!  gotta have a seat for the wife, but i hate the idea of her legs becoming active dampers/shocks!  bad for the handling, bad for the knees!  i hear they changed this, anyone got some nice pics of the later placement?  anyone been a passenger on footpegs like this?  am i overreacting?

Shouldn't be to hard to change:

On my 650, there is a triangle of steel welded to the frame right behind the front pegs.  Would be easy to fab.

All you have to do, is put the holes for the pegs in the same location but with clearance for the swingarm and you're done.

Of course, then it wouldn't be stock......

You want to 'cafe' the bike, but you're concerned about footpegs for a passenger?

Unless you're taking your wife for rides on washboard gravel roads, I don't think she'll have any trouble with the footpeg placement.  I wouldn't bother spending any time or effort on trying to re-locate them.

Aaron,  It's not a problem.  The early 125/150 had the pegs on the swingarms.
C92  C/CA95  CB92/95 models had them, but CBs (bolt on items where extras)
C95 sprint bike.
CB95 hybrid race bike
CB95 race bike
CB92

You could always buy a later frame that has the pegs on a separate mounting from a breaker and trasfer everything over.

My wife is always an active damper , when on the back of the bike she really puts a damper on things like scraping pegs. That`s why she rides her own now ;D

leave em on there, her legs may be better than the stock shocks! i have a set of bolt anywhere pegs, if you have a  frame tube close you can bolt them on, and off at your whim.

In the UK the F1 had pegs on the swingarm, the F2 had them on the frame.

Supersport - that's a glorious looking frame resto.

My 550K3 was restored by a guy who does E-Types for a living.  He even powder coated the brake arm (unlike yours!)

I think the passenger pegs on the 400F were nothing more than an afterthought.  That bike wasn't really meant for riding two-up on.

Sort of like the trunk of a convertible sports car.  It's only there "just in case".

some food for thought here...

I like the "bolt on" universal peg idea...
i can unbolt the swingarm mounted ones and re-bolt them when i want it bone stock again...

neckyzips - any pics of these?  unless i can get them for $30-40 cdn, I'll fab my own...

try a CB750 where the brake linkage is also on the swing arm-interesting over ripples on the road

You want to 'cafe' the bike, but you're concerned about footpegs for a passenger?

i agree... if it is a true cafe (in my opinion) there should be NO PLACE for da wife!  i recommend an entirely different motorcycle for her with her very own footpegs.  then you both can be scraping the pegs no problem.

yes it was stupid they put them on the swingarm that's why they stopped doing it in 77 for the 400/4 although those were only made from 75-77 anyways. I think the 400/4 sucks for a passenger anyways, my girlfriend hates riding on the back because the stupid seat design too. that's why I'm putting a solo seat on it now.

it'll be a cafe for me, then when she's ready, it'll be hers.  thing is, I would like to restore it as stock, than convert it.  this way when i want it "as orignal"  later in life i can just bolt on the stock bits (freshly restored before storage)

but until i've got another bike, she'll have to ride on the back...and having gone through knee surgery, i'm a little cautious with undue shocks to em...

Besides, I like my bikes predictable... if a bikes got active damping, i want to be the one programming it!  random inputs to the rear wheel are not my thing. :o
