Carb float adjustment. Is this the correct method?
« on: June 26, 2014, 08:47:34 AM »
1975 CB 550 - Keihin Carbs.   Just checking to be sure I did this correctly.

in this photo the screw driver is pointing at the small tab that actually contacts the shutoff pin in the carb.

Since it is a difficult to see, here is a little sketch

after reading carb FAQ and many threads, I basically laid carb on side, allowed this float tab to just contact the small pin in the shut off valve and measured the height from float to carb body where the bowl attaches/seals.

When it needed adjustment, I just slightly bent this tab.   Reinstalled float and remeasured.   Is this the basic procedure?

thanks

Since you said "reinstalled float" I imagine that you removed the float to bend the tab. I keep it installed when I bend the tab. Someone can scold me on that but I think it's fine to do.

Nice drawings by the way.

I too make adjustments, if needed, with the float installed.

Make sure the tab is parallel and free of dimples(famous Hondaman dimples)
