My license plate is missing
« on: June 18, 2014, 06:29:43 AM »
Yesterday I had plates on my bike, today I don't. They were on with nylocks so they didn't fall off. Why would someone steal my plates?

PlateS.....as in plural???  How many do you have?
Anyway, someone is using your plate so they don't have to pay.

REPORT IT IMMEDIATELY TO THE POLICE AS STOLEN!!!!!
Who knows what the low-life is gonna do with a bike with your plate on it?

Yeah, who knows? You could be getting a few red light tickets soon if they have those in your area.

Sorry I meant plate. I'll check the CB when I get home to make sure it's still there. I got to work on the FZR and found that I had no plate.
Police report made. Thankfully I work one block from the local BMV and now have a temp plate till the new one is mailed to me.

I still don't get it. I'm freakin poor but I can afford to plate my bikes.

Yeah, people here steal the renewal stickers all the time downtown if owner's don't cut them to prevent theft.
Sad fact of vehicle ownership.

Dave - often the theft of a plate is not driven by the cost, it's to "plate" a stolen vehicle not eligible for legal plates.

I  guess I just don't think that way. Maybe to honest to even come up with that reason. I  know I live on the same planet as these people but very different worlds.

When I bolted my plate on, I use socket button head (allen) bolts with vibration proof nuts on the back side.  If you don't have an allen wrench, gettin them off is a chore.  It's a chore even WITH the proper tools.

Steve I think you've inspired a trip to the hardware store. Some stainless hex bolts and nylocks should deter most casual thiefs.
When I got home I walked up and down the road and found one of my bolts up the hill leading to where all the teen druggies live.
I can't wait till one of them gets pulled over for stolen plates on their 150 cc scooters.
Buying some sort of locking mechanism for my shed too. They already cleaned me out of my tools over the winter.
Still need to replace the valve spring compressor, compression tester, a few more sockets, and my Phillips screwdrivers.

Too bad there wasn't a bear trap in your shed.

I've got my plate installed w/ Honda flange bolts & flange nuts(the flange type have a built on 'washer' that has a taper to it that locks it on when tight)and then Locktite on the threads.I like the idea of allen head bolts but won't use plastic nuts on the back.
