Advice on Engine Gasket/Seals Replacement CB550K
« on: June 20, 2014, 12:28:02 PM »
Hi folks, looks like I need to take my '78 CB550K engine out and do some serious gasket/seal replacement. I got oil leaking from pretty much everywhere, both lower and upper regions, enough to make a holy mess anytime she gets hot and revved up for any length of time. Hopefully all the internal mechanical stuff is in good shape (valves, pistons, etc.) - I will of course inspect all that while the engine it out and apart. In the scenario that I will just need to replace most of the seals and gaskets that are leaking, do you have any general advice about what to watch out for when I take the engine apart? Any general advice on things that I can to do make it a bit easier going back together? I'm just seeking general advice as I have not pulled an engine before nor tore one apart...so this will definitely be a learning opportunity. I appreciate any thoughts and wisdom before I go in. Cheers

Take lots of pics while disassembly. Also for each little section and and tag the nuts and bolts. Buy the Allen head bolt set on ebay and the Versah gasket set. I got mine for around 90 bucks. You will also need to get a separate o ring kit. I will look for the ones I got and post the links.
