faux recessed key switch?
« on: June 23, 2014, 10:08:05 pm »
I was looking at the crazy prices of the recessed K0 switches and wondered about making an extended chrome nut that covers the outside face of a newer Honda or aftermarket ignition switch and simulated a sandcast/diecast  recessed key switch?  Yamiya sells the red or black plastic plug that goes on the key for 10 bucks.
Fabricators,  I would accept a test model in exchange for my product idea.

The old surviving recessed ones are selling for hundreds/thousands of dollars.

Recessed ignitions can be found for a couple hundred bucks...considering the value of K0's, I don't think it's crazy.  But, I can't wait to see what you come up with!

For a bike like my hot rod diecast, I'd like to have an original looking switch but would hesitate to pay a lot for a switch that most people threw away for a reason. That said, I need one for my sandcast 750 and If I had a couple hundred $$ laying around would probably pay for one. $800 to A thousand like Yamiya is asking? No thanks.

Why do you say people threw them away?

I was patient, and posted a wanted ad on this forum, and the SOOC site too.  I eventually got a nice one with a plug key for $200.  Yamiya can't be beat for a lot of stuff, but they aren't the place for everything if you're not made of money..

I'm not sure what the reason is but there are very few of them left. Not one of the few K0's I've been around still had the early switch. Maybe everyone just lost the key.

I'm not sure that all K0's had them, and when the newer style was introduced.  That might be a question for someone on the SOOC site with early diecast knowledge, or somebody like HondaMan.

Out of 5 bikes between #5,000 and 14,000 none had one. just my experience. The change was approx, between 102,4xxx and 1025xxx.

My sandcast is the only K0 I've had, and it was robbed of all the good parts...I guess I was lucky to find such a good deal on the switch!
