Seeley SH7-519
« on: June 25, 2014, 09:43:20 AM »
Well here it is in all its tragic glory, looks mocked up and unfinished ( no races ,not sure frame was ever used ) swing arm looks like it was chromed at one time. Aluminum tank has had 4 paint jobs ( Candy Apple red was the first ),, 1971 motor with a multifire 6 ?, 18 " 40 spoke DID aluminum rims, 48 tooth sprocket , dual disc front end.

Most, if not all of the frames and swing arms were nickle-plated. The seat pan is flatter than mine where the cushion goes. Are you sure it's steel rather than fiberglass? The front forks look to be from a newer bike. Gerex Multifire ignition? Mine was originally red metal-flake.

and yes ...  "Gerex 6 Multifire"

Yeah, they used the stock triple, but the top bearing is different, IIRC. More pictures please. :) Take a close-up of the bracing behind the rear of the motor where the swing arm mounts; something looks different there.

Take a pic of the brace on the other side, please. The top outer race was the difference; they evidently took a standard race and reduced the OD to fit into the steering head; for all I know, it may be the same as the stock race diameter. It was a tapered roller bearing.

Well, I look at it and I see parts.  My guess is it is the frame and tank that are the big ticket items, custom frame and you mentioned aluminum tank?

Loaded to the 9s with performance goodies as well am guessing.  Looks like a gauge mounted on engine curbside?

Looks to have a lot of promise.  Head bearings are a bit odd sized, but you can get ones that'll fit without modifying them- best to measure whatever triples you will use - bearing in mind most Seeley owners ditch the stock forks & fit some better ones with different triples.  Seat is homemade (weigh it in...).  First thing I'd do is go back to the sellers place and spend as many hours as it takes to help him find the footrests and mounting plates, they're really hard to get anywhere else

I installed a Gerex on my Goldwing last year. A NOS unit I picked up off of eBay. I was very happy with how it ran, it was an improvement over the points, but the controller box is huge and a pain to position where it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.

Couple Questions

How do I title this ?

Will stock shocks fit ?

How is the tank held down and does anything go between the tank and frame ? ( was thinking some rubber tubing over the rails )

Can I use and Cafe seat that will fit a CB750

Anyone have install instructions for the Multifire :D

Thanks

The instructions are actually in the permanent thread at the top of this forum where links to the various repair manuals are found. Just scroll down until you see it.

More answers ....

How do I title this ?  not sure, hopefully one of the US members can advise about using ITS or someone

Will stock shocks fit ? not really- different spring rate etc needed, Hagon can provide them, that's who did mine

How is the tank held down and does anything go between the tank and frame ? ( was thinking some rubber tubing over the rails )  - your tank fixings looks slightly different to mine, but still should be ok to use hoover belts (check ebay) to hold it down and foam pipe insulation over the frame rails.

Can I use and Cafe seat that will fit a CB750 -  not easily, measurements all differ. A German guy has the Seeley solo seat mould, maybe someone in the facebrook group knows him?

Anyone have install instructions for the Multifire :D   - covered by Bankerdanny already

Cheers

LOL ;D ;D The stock style shocks have a clevis on the bottom, while the Seeley has the clevis on the swing-arm. You need shocks with eyes on both ends.
Here's the scoop on the steering head top bearings: When I took both bearing parts to a bearing house to replace them, the guy matched up the numbers etched on them, which should have been a 2" OD outer race, with a 1" ID inner race. The outer race fit into the frame fine, but the inner race wouldn't fit the Honda stem. That's when we figured out that Seeley had opened up the ID to 1.024" (26 mm). That shouldn't be an issue, as tapered bearings are now readily available that fit the Honda stem.
