BRAKE PAD ADVICE

Hi All,

           Looking for some advice on brake pads.  I'm rebuilding my 1978 CB750F from a 30 year hibernation and going through everything.  But I lost track on the newest developments in braking technology.  Is the a better brake pad out there that I should use?  Thanks Allan

If you are still using the stock rotor, then the stock pads work fine.

I rebuilt my front brake caliper the other day and never quite liked the feel of it with the newer style pads (I beleive they were kevlar based).

 While i had everything apart, i went through my old stash and found an original asbestos pad that had little wear (the lighter colour one on the left hand side of the picture), so i decided to clean it up with hot soapy water and fit it. I'd have to say that i like the feel of it a lot better. It seems more firmer and reassuring than the other ones i had in there. So i used the asbestos pad on the piston side and an original kevlar based one on the idle side simply because they both had the most meat on them.
 Not sure what other opinions of material type vs feel is on the forum.

I'm using DSS aftermarket ones on twin discs, they work well, leave black #$%* all over the discs and don't look like the ones you see on the site, no bevel unlike the pictures which look like old stock ones but they work.

On my 82 I have EBS performance rotors with copper semi-sintered pads.  Combined with stainless lines, braking is powerful but very firm.  So lots of feedback through handle and tough to accidentally over grab.

The EBC FA12, or FA13 (kevlar) pads have always worked well for me.

I use the FA12V, semi sintered version of the FA12. Can usually be had for a steal on amazon too

Round top carbs w/ 38 pilots, middle needle position, airscrew 7/8ths out, 122 main jet
Stock airbox w/ drop in K&N, Hooker 4-1

Don't trust me alone with a claw hammer and some pliers
