Wow, it has been a long time since Ive been on the forum at all much less posted in here.

Here's a quick update, not much has happened in the last year! :) I've had so many other projects going both in the shop and on the honey-do list that the bike hasn't gotten much love. But that has changed recently!

I picked up a new brake/clutch lever set, some shorties, & they look much nicer that the stock monsters.

I was talking with a friend a while back about how the bike runs (no road test yet) and his opinion was the cam. I went with a new valve kit from Cycle X (guides, valves, retainers, springs) and a Web Cam #41 grind cam. It sounded to me like the cam was not degreed correctly and he seemed to think so as well. I have spent the last two days reading and fidgeting with the stupid thing and I'm pretty damn close to just putting the stock "F" cam back in. No joke, I've found about 6 different sets of valve timing info for the #41 grind and none of them match the numbers I get. Working from the card I got I can't hit any of the specs it has listed. I've tried about 12 different configurations and while I'll chalk 6 of them up to beginner error the other 6 I feel are spot on but still do not match the specs on the info card.

I've wondered if there is a rocker ratio I'm missing in my calculations, anyone know if the '77 F is anything other than 1:1? I will say I'm 100% that the valve lift listed is incorrect, I've checked that 3 times and .330 is it every time. I set the intake open at 11 degrees bTDC and the intake closes well before the listed 46 degrees aBDC (32 degrees on 3 different tries). I set it up the last time like a stock F cam and I think I'm calling it good. I'll get it back together this week and fire it up to see what happens.

On a side note, I also have the Cycle X Power Arc ignition and I have never been blown away with that thing. In fact, it kacked on me back when I had the bike on the road originally, figured out that was heat related and now won't waste all day on the side of the road futzing with it. If she is still not running right then I might junk the Power Arc and go with Hondaman's setup as I do have a new set of points in a box in the shop. I also picked up a Morgan Carbtune a while back and played with that a bit, so as you can see really just a years worth of spinning my wheels.
That which does not kill you leaves cool scabs which turn into awesome scars.
