Anyone play paintball?
« on: October 14, 2009, 08:01:04 PM »
I've paintballed a few times with friends in KC and really enjoy it. I'm trying to get my family together to have a mini-tournament back home. The terrain includes wooded areas, large clearings, fences, buildings, junk vehicles, deep creeks, and various other obstacles. The gaming area would be measured in acres, not feet. ;D However, I know there will be limited weapons, probably more people than guns. Thus far I have either 4 or 5 guns (and safety equipment). The biggest problem is, I've only played "every man for himself" and "capture the flag."

Here are my ideas thus far:

I'd like to get a lot more than 4 people in any one game. Due to the limited number of weapons, the defenseless people should have designated duties. I envision each shooter having a spotter who would carry the radio, a pair of binoculars, grenades (water balloons) and smoke bombs. There could also be players designated as medics that can "save" wounded comrades (much like freeze tag). Others could be in charge of communications and/or orchestrate the attacks.

I want to try to enact real-life scenarios, such as hostage situations, attacks on fortified areas, taking hidden/protected goals (like capture the flag), taking hostages from the opposing team, etc. Basically war games. This could take place in any number of locals. Around the house/yard at the farm, even in one of the pastures. Obviously the topography and size of each area would determine the tactics that each team would execute.

In an effort to make the game more realistic, certain rules would be required. For instance, a person mortally wounded (shot in the face/head, middle of the chest, etc) will not be able to be "saved" by the team's medic. If someone is shot in the leg, they will have to "hop" until the medic can get to them and they can only go a certain distance without assistance (20 foot diameter circle, perhaps?). In the case of a mortality, the soldier cannot move on his/own, but also cannot be "left behind" and must be taken by one of his teammates to a "base."

Obviously these rules wouldn't be 100% enforceable without some kind of referee which would have to have a radio (or two, one for each team's freq). If we can trust everyone to follow the rules we won't need a ref.

There would be a "staging area" before each round. A number of scenarios would be either voted on or pulled out of a hat and special requirements may be implemented to make the round either more challenging or to even the odds. Maps of the area will also be provided. After the scenario is decided and requirements set, each team would be sent to their base of operations to draw up their plan of attack. At this time each team's leader would decide the roles that each teammate would play (medic, spotter, shooter, team coordinator/radio operator, etc) that would be advantageous to the scenario. After a minimum amount of time the game will start. Once the game is started, team roles are set and static.

Does anyone on the forum have any experience in this to give me more ideas?
