Well, you did give him a start by your appearance; he thought at first he was having a bit of a relapse, what with a large fairy bobbing about the room. :o

Us fairies don't wear skirts, or kilts. Just wings so we can flit about- besides, kilts are Celtic, Sam's British. Tried putting one on him when I first got him out of the hospital gown and he was having none of it.  :)

Well......the day has come, discharge day!!! My Dad will eventually be leaving the hospital today and traveling to Atlanta to join Bill for a couple of weeks, depending on what time he leaves the hospital depends on when he arrives in Atlanta, it may be today or even Friday. He will be with Bill for a while just to help recuperate before he travels back to the UK. Please give him some time to settle in before bombarding him with message, it would be nice for him to settle in at Bills and read all that has been typed on here and the SOHC4 forum. He still has a way to go in his recovery but this is a massive step considering where he was only 2 weeks ago.

Thank you to everyone that has helped and been there to support him either by visiting, calling, well wishing and donating. I am sure he will be overwhelmed when he sees all the messages of support.

 Jonathan.

Let's change this thread title! "Free at last, free at last, thank God I'm free at last!" has a nice ring to it-

I'll be picking up Sam near 11AM today. Then, if the hospital has their game on, we will get underway to Atlanta (560 mi). Normally, I'd make the drive in about 8 hours, but will need to go easy and be prepared to stop and stretch as Sam wants.

Also, will need to make sure Sam doesn't have any motion sickness since he's been so sedentary for 3 weeks. The other evening while visiting, was walking him about the ward floor, and had him shut his eyes to test his balance. All good. Then take a few steps with eyes closed, same. So I'm not expecting any problems, but will just go along and let him enjoy the view.

Depending upon his comfort, we make cut the drive to 2 pieces, else we will be landing late this evening. I'm sure Sam will be wicked excited to see Bill again and be out of hospital. We will see how the trip goes, and special anecdotes that surface, I'll post here. And perhaps a progress report if given the safe opportunity.

Otherwise, from tomorrow, Sam will be responsible for posting for himself  :D Been a real pleasure and privilege, Gents. He's a special guy, and very lucky to have so many dear friends as the whole of you.

(A little southern vernacular for you: the plural of "you" when spoken here abouts is "y'all". The "whole of you" is spoken as "all y'all". I'm trying to teach Sam these finer points, so keep an eye out ;-)

I spoke to Cal very briefly today and to Sam as well. Sam needs some rest as shown in the the last posted pic. He sounded much better but needs to continue to heal. After spending about 3 months with the man I have a feeling as to what he should sound like.
He did say he has a lot of internet to catch up with. I said besides your porn sites what else could it be??

Sam was delivered around 10:30PM local time to a very excited $2 Bill Benton. After getting Sam sorted and unpacked, he went off to bed as it was a long day for him. He slept much of the ride, but I'm certain he was exhausted by it. Tried to break it up into small pieces for him, but he wouldn't give in.

I got about a 3 hour tour of the coveted a Bill Benton hideaway of coveted SOHC parts. Holy crap, has he got some precious parts squirreled away! I think Bill secretly has collected every desirable and hard to find part for these bikes. The "In need of crowd" only need PM and PayPal that guy and save the time... I am certain he'll have it.

Very enjoyable visit, but had to cut it short and turn around to get home. I'd wager that tomorrow is the first really good day Sam will have had since 19 June. Familiar surroundings, great friend, and non-hospital food should get him right in no time.

All up to you now, Bill.

Gotta push on, miles to go-
