Advice needed. Barn find 79 CB 650 & CB 360t
« on: June 28, 2014, 09:20:37 AM »
I will try to keep this short and sweet... I  have the opportunity to acquire a 79 CB 650 with title , not running since 97, motor not seized but complete ( its more of a parts bike)...... also a CB 360t. Motor runs , but bike is not compete and needs some work.

I have not seen either bike, just a few crappy pics from my buddys cell.... They are asking $600 for the Cb 650 or $1100 for both.
What I have is a 78 CB 550k... I remember reading about being able to "swap" a 79 to 82 CB 650 motor into a 550 ?? is this ture, possible or kRaZy talk ???

Any info on the 650/550 motor swap, and info on the CB 360t (which I know nothing about!!)

Cheers

It cost me about 600$ to acquire a title in NJ, so for me, that alone is worth the money. I mean they are potentially 2 very good projects. I'd buy them.

yup cb650 motor drops right in, but the wiring and ignition is gonna be a little trickier if the 650 has electronic ignition.  I wouldn't mind finding a 650 for my 550 myself.  I don't think there is much point in a 550 owner wasting precious time/money/garage space on a 360.  I rode one for a few years before I got my first sohc4, and there really isn't much to compare.  If you want a six speed, find yourself a 400 4.  Few people were beating down my door to buy my clean, original, under 15000 mile cb360 for $900.  Granted, jap bikes are generally cheap here in Michigan, and the market has changed a bit since I sold it 5 years ago.
If it works good, it looks good...

Not really into the 360t, but if the price was right ?? More into the 650 motor and the whole motor swap thing??
