Hi there
I picked up this CB750 K2ish a few weeks ago.
This bloke said he had gone through the bike and got it all sorted.
Including done up the front brakes and rebuilt the forks while putting in tappered steering head bearings

The bike wheeled freely enough and there was no evidence of fork oil leaks.

Thought I better go over the bike and take a closer look once I got it home

Front wheel when spun does about 1 revolution and then stops. Caliper seized and brake fluid leaks at all hose connections. One caliper bolt missing.

Wheel bearings the most noisy I have heard. Speedo cable screw nearly fallen out.

Oh well pull the caliper and wheel off. Better check the fork oil.

Left fork had two parts of stuff all oil and right side bone dry.

Dang. Good call to check that stuff.

No matter who you buy it from (doesn't matter if they drink, or smoke ganja, or go to church) you should always do a 100% thorough inspection. I've always found "unsafe" items on all of my bikes no matter who the owner was/is.

BTW, when I work on my bike stoned (only sometimes, usually don't prefer it) I never miss anything, but I'm very tedious on everything that I don't get a whole lot done.  8)

What a big liar. I hope you can still contact him and call him out on that bull#$%*. I work on my bike all the time on Ganga and my #$%* usually turns out better than when I'm stone sober. I tend to really go into the details.  :P

I guess the piece of radiator hose above the fork ear can be used as an indicator as to the quality of tthis dudes work

In racing it's called a nut and bolt check. I'd go over the entire machine. I had one like that once, it's nice now. Take your time.

I think this guy may have been a little too dizzy (is baked a term from Canada or USA).
He might just be full of sh#t and shouldn't be working on motorbikes

Yeah I'm not too worried how long it takes.  I have no time frame as to how long it should take.  Just ordering heaps of parts and do one little bit at a time.

No #$%*, unless I personally know the seller and the type of work they do I take whatever the average bozo seller says he did with a huge grain of salt. And check everything personally, my life depends on it.

I pick all my bikes up in the trailer, never rode one home since I was a teenager.
I 100% agree with checking right over it or any bike for that matter, it's a must do.

When you get a new/used top tree don't forget to make up some .090" D washers or the same thing will happen again.
When I bought my #$%*box the engine was out of the frame, the guy said the top end had been rebuilt  but the engine had never run since, luckily ::)
The front chain slipper was missing along with the two outer Orings under the cam towers. One of the oil jets was broken, 90% of the 6mm threads in the head were stripped, one bolt was an imperial thread jammed in there. Pistons were old with gouges all over the tops of them, hone was very bodgy, old rings in there too, black goop oozing out from the head gasket. Cam chain had been replaced with a rivet link which was buckled. All the valves had been refaced so where they seat was now razor sharp. All sorts of bodgery too much to mention. Luckily the bottom end had not been apart. Top end had been rebuilt ;D

Hopefully mine isn't that bad.
He did put a crack in the sump though.
Turns out the oil leak isn't just because he didn't put a washer on the sump plug

It looks to be either the one that seals the countershaft bearing (so oil can feed up into the mainshaft), which would be 2x6mm or 1.9x5.9mm, or else one of the oil seal O-rings from under the rocker towers? (Same size.) On most post-K1 bikes the top ones are 4 each of the 2x6 or 1.9x5.9mm size, but a precious few have one side smaller.

Those Orings can't just come loose n fall into the cases. If you haven't had the engine running and even more important, taken the bike out for a ride then you have no idea what you might need to do but I reckon what's happened with the Oring is that someone has been into the top end, lifted the cam tower/s up and one of the outer Orings has fallen down the cam chain tunnel because they had no idea what they were doing. Whether they replaced it or even knew it should be there is anyone's guess. Mine had the two outer ones missing.
If it was me I'd be rebuilding the whole engine and having a good look at all the tranny parts and replace the two needle rollers in the primary hub along with new chains n rollers etc. Do it right and then you know it's right. Or, start it up, ride it n see how you go, check that there is oil pressure to the top end before you ride it, take out #s 1n4 exhaust tapet plugs n see if you can see oil once you get it going.
