Honda Dealer - no parts fische????
« on: July 24, 2014, 11:02:55 AM »
So my dealer who I have been buying stuff from since 2007 told me today they no longer have the 70's bikes in their parts fische. What the heck??? He said they needed room for the 80's bikes and on up. Says Honda updated the computer files and the 70's bikes are gone. Not sure if this is true and they are handing me a bunch of crapola or what? I know there were some parts people there that did not know how to find the older Hondas on the parts lists. Anyone else here this yet??? Computers can hold so much data I can not believe they are running out of space.

Yea sounds like you got a lazy kid or something.  I mean its not like they are stocking the parts in their store.  They are having them mailed to them at dealer cost and charging you what Honda says they should charge for the part.

This is why you look up your own parts and take the part number to them to order.

I usually do provide the part number. Happened I was in the car when I remembered I needed something. I think they are handing me a line.

Over the few years I have been in the vintage Honda game i have experienced the whole spectrum

The good dealers have held on to the old micro fiche parts lookups, or have it available on the computer.
The average dealers will use one of the many websites to do the look ups and plug the part numbers into there ordering system
The crappy dealers will tell you to go figure out the part numbers yourself and send or bring them in.

Also some dealers will only check the central warehouses for the parts while others will also check other dealers for parts in there stock.

If your ever in need of a part and there being useless or stupid, suggest they use one of the many online sources to get the part numbers.

Me too, I've called so many of them all over the states that I've lost track who had what left and was still selling at stock price. NOS rectifier nearly $300 on ebay, and a dealer who still had one sold it for half that. Heck, I found a set of the unobtanium NOS oil hoses for half of what yamiya repops cost. I couldn't believe a stealership was actually costing less ;)

Is the dealer locator available to us online or just through the dealer?

My local Honda dealer still has the original microfiche cards.  They have been in business since 1956.  It is always entertaining watching them whip out the box of cards ... look for the part number ... then go on to the computer to see if they or Honda Canada has the parts.  I ordered three oil pan gaskets .. two came from Toronto and one from Vancouver .. so the system still works  :)
