Bridgeton IN Tractor and Quilt Show.
« on: July 23, 2014, 01:17:29 PM »
About a Month ago Linda and I went to the place we met "Bridgeton IN", and saw a Tractor and Quilt show.:
The original bridge was built in the 1800s. We were first on it on our first date in 1982. In the meantime, it was burned down (arson) and a Rebuild the Bridge drive resurrected it using the original type wood found locally and techniques. Except the crane they used to set the pieces in place. That may not have been how they did it in the 1800s.   ;)
Stationary motors:

This one sat there idling at 100rpm all day. Pop, Pop, Po,

Early attempt at water cooling

Here's some fun:

Hey Ron,

Bridgeton was just down the road from my old house in Brazil and I went there frequently! The guy who burned that wonderful old bridge down was caught the same night by a very smart cop who thought to check on the bridge over in Mansfield. That's where he found the jackass trying to torch that one too. I still miss Indiana very much, that's saying a lot for a native Illinoisan! In Brazil I had many great rides no more than 10 minutes from my door. Still trying to sell the house. The boiler misfired this past winter, went dead, and now the house is full of cracked radiators and has no heating system.  :'(  Thanks for the pics though, brightened my day seeing one of my favorite areas to ride through!  :)

You're welcome! Small world. Nice pic of your bike, is that the original Bridgeton Bridge? Interesting bit about the arsonist. Maybury type story.

Wish I'd had a better pic of the Bridgton dam and mill as well. When we were there the water was really flowing. Recent rains.

I ahd a lot more tractor pics, but can't get them to move, must be corrupted. Quilts too.  ;)

Here's one of the trade barn where I commissioned a tubular chair with Colts  for build buddy Bruce, Colts fan, a we all are.

That chair is cool! Personalized even, I'll bet he loves it! I think that pic is of the original bridge. I have so many pics of both the old & new that even I get confused some times. But then that just tells you what a great job they did of rebuilding it! I sat there some times watching them saw the trees into lumber for the new bridge.

Cheers Ron,
Jay

Yeah it was an impulse buy. But I figured he'd appreciate it. After all the help on Phaedrus, it was the least I coulld do.

Schmitty! How are you! I guess I know, but the Username is different isn't it?

That was a great ride.

I followed it (the rebuild) on their website, quite a project.

Yeah Ron, LMAO, it's me! I changed the user name a couple years back, I take it you're referring to the 2010 Hoosier fall ride? Yes, it was epically awesome! Someday I'd love to bring some of my Illinois riding buddies out to that same area to show them how wonderful the state of Indiana is. My brother just recently surprised me by going out and getting his motorcycle license and buying a Honda Shadow. So I hope to at least bring him out there!

Great score on the CB1100. Brand new, I know how that feels, got my 03 FJR in 02. Really new.

Phaedrus is "done" (there will always be things to do)  and running. I am really happy with it. But my physical condition (peripheral neuropathy) keeps me from riding it. Let alone shake it down for the inevitable tweaks it needs. I bought a rampfree trailer. So, I entered it in the VJMC National Show a few weeks ago and won first place in the custom class.  Its now entered in the Cycle World "Why We Ride" Pagoda Show at the MotoGP in a few weeks. I may not even get a look, but I'm looking forward. People like to galk and talk. And Phaedrus is good for that!
