Replacing nuts on front rotor
« on: June 30, 2014, 10:34:38 PM »
1973 CB350f -

The manual and service bulletin says not to reuse the tongue washers when working on the rotor.

I can't find new tongue washers anywhere on the net.  So should I go against the bold text and just reuse my tongue washers?  Or should I switch to these so called UBS nuts?  If you guys think I should switch to the UBS nuts is that something I can find at a typical hardware store or is that something i'll have to get from the stealership?

cheers

-James

I bought new ones at the dealer. They should be available. It's not like your rotor is going to fall out without them though.

Why not save yourself a headache and buy the UBS nuts that were used on the later serial number bikes?  The torque spec is right there on your bulletin.

Did nylocks the german way, gutntight :) and they hold find.  I would think the nylocks have the same or close the same torgue as normal nuts.

I replaced one of my rotor nuts that was lost with a nylock....and promptly stripped it when trying to torque it. After cutting it off I replaced all of the nuts with tension lock nuts. They are one time only use but are pretty easy to come by and don't require the tongue washers.

Just reuse the tongued washer. It only says that because eventually they will work harden and snap from removal. I bet it will still take more times than you will need to remove that rotor
