Sandcast Find CB750-1000658
« on: July 02, 2014, 01:23:28 PM »
Hey guys, been awhile.   Just moved into the new house and am building a new shop so my buy fix flip business has been on hold but I think I found that one in 7000 or so finds, a 69 Sandcast parts lot/basket case.    The original owner said when he bought his new bike the engine went bad so they put a non vin replacement engine in his bike.  The frame vin and title say  CB750-1000658  the engine is smooth and the pipes are non stamped.   Any info you can give me is much appreciated but I will be doing some research.  The PO had recently bought new old stock seat and tons of other parts including wiring harnes and shocks.  Ill post the pics i have now but theres so many small NOS parts in bags that will take time to sort through.  I dont know if ill sell it all off or build my own 1969 CB750. Im really just taking it all in.   oh and i got a nice 1200.00 lift for 400.00 along with it.

Thanks guys!!

Lucky you, Tango, your back in a big way!  The bike may have suffered a broken drive chain and a hole in the case, the dealer would have replaced it under warranty. Sometimes they stamped the engine number, obviously not on yours.  Replacement cases do not appear to be sandcast, too bad, big hit to the value. But, there is still a lot of value to it, someone may mate a numbers correct engine to that frame and bingo, big bucks. Does it have the wrinkle gas tank?   I believe the no number pipes are correct for that bike. I'm no Sandy expert, Mark and Greggo are and I'm sure they can help you.

i havent checked the tank yet.  The cases look rougher than normal, so im not sure really.   This is listed in the sandcast only club sight under the original owners name.   Im just doing my searching.   thanks guys!!  Now do i part it out or build to keep.   This doesnt happen very often, if ever again.

If you've got the time, and cash  :P look for an engine to go in it.
IIWM...id put the frame up for sale to the sandcast community and go find one or six other CB's to work on  ;D

toying with the 2nd idea myself.  If i built it, id use the existing engine, it was an original replacement for that bike so it is legit or piecing it out is $$$ just as well.

Personally, I wouldnt like to see it parted out. I'm sure you bought it right and can still make a tidy profit if you sell it as a package.

The cases look correct,  cant see that hurting the value real bad..it would if they were diecast.
I had #572 frame complete bike.. Think the engine was #701 ish.

not sure how to tell if its diecast or sand.   the finish looks to be rougher than normall.

Easiest way to tell. There are 9 clutch cover screws on a SC and 10 on all later models.

The pad on the cases where the vin would have been stamped is the correct shape and configuration as those on a stamped sandcast case. It is raised without the border  ;) Looks like it would be worth making whole again. Congrats on the SCORE-------

Agreed, it appears to be a sandcast replacement.

I confess: never been into the whole "factory restoration/preservation" movement. But, with this bike, even it would attempt a full nut and bolt restore. Not very common to find such a well documented machine with factory or NOS parts.

Sell it whole to someone that will preserve it, or restore it yourself, please.

Nice score, especially on those NOS parts...not easy to find.  I agree on the restore it, or sell it whole idea.  The non-stamped cases shouldn't affect the value significantly since they are real sandcast replacements.

I'd always expect it to be worth more together especially a 3 digit bike like that one.

I'm keeping it and will slowly do a correct restore.  I'll prob never have a chance to score a 3 digit bike ever again.

Good decision.  Consider that part of your IRA plan, it will only go up in value.
