'78 CB550 K Choke Broken
« on: July 02, 2014, 03:16:51 PM »
I just joined the ranks of SOHC4 riders, and I am loving everything about my bike, except for one thing... the choke is broken. From what I understand, the choke knob up by the handlebars is connected to a cable that turns some valves down by the carbs and air filters. My knob sticks a lot, and does not actually affect the shifting of these valves. Can anyone guide me towards a fix?

Happy,
You have a 77 or 78 I would presume. At any rate, when you pull the knob, have you removed the air box to see if the choke plates are closing/opening? Could be routing of the cable or it may be pinched/kinked or not secure in its stay on the linkage. Look under the "Manuals" section off of the websites main page to see diagrams and explanations of certain maintenance items. Fun times are ahead when you start to do small service, or T/S things, such as a sticky choke cable.
