Soon to be owner...
« on: July 02, 2014, 07:03:55 PM »
So, a few weeks ago I put an "extra" car we had on CL looking for trades. The CB bug hit me HARD thanks to a FB friend of mine who lives far away and constantly posts cafe pictures that get me drooling.

After a couple of silly offers (including a guy who wanted to trade me for a wasr AK) I finally got an email from a guy with a 1975 CB750. It's got a different tank on it with knee indents and clubman bars that have yet to have wires run.

It comes with a parts bike and a LOT of goodies, including several nice exhausts.

My plan is to tear the good bike down completely over the rest of this summer into winter and do a full resto/build into a cafe bike tailored to my liking. I'm thinking black and orange in matte for my colors. Just a combo I have always liked. I will likely leave much of it stock but the fenders will be cut down. I like naked bikes.

I will rebuild the engine myself. I've rebuilt corvair engines and jeep engines so...it doesn't intimidate me whatsoever to tear into something. I will label and take pictures along the way. Not really planning a lot for performance upgrades at this point as I am not a very experienced road rider and I don't need a bunch of horsepower. 70 is plenty!

This looks like a real good forum and I'm looking forward to spending far too much of my precious free time here.

Pics once I have it home!

Hey guys-

Stev-O. I'm in Topeka, KS

70CB - The one in the 99 GC I currently drive which is the super-easy 4.0L inline 6. I've got about 13k on it and running great.

Been working on engines and things that go my whole life. I'm sure this will be a learning experience but I'm excited!

Ravie - welcome. A great source of info for your rebuild is a book written by a member here, Hondaman. You can find a listing for it on the forum main page. There's also a few highly valuable build threads that will aide you extensively in the nuances of these motors.

This a great resource for the top-end rebuild: http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=107040.0

Welcome!  Like others say this forum is very useful. I did nothing but researching here to fix my bike which had mysterious charging problem and other issues for the first year.

Now I just post cat pictures.

Thanks! So far the only thing that intimidates me is wiring. There's a lot of it!
