1978 CB550 Carb Tuning
« on: July 04, 2014, 10:48:23 PM »
I recently purchased a nice running '78 CB550. It was running a bit sluggish at low RPM and would surge as I accelerated, so I did a valve and cam chain adjustment and this seems to have improved its running all around and reduced a lot of engine noise. The previous owner claimed the carbs were jetted and tuned the last season (bike as aftermarket Jardines). Before I go and ride the bike a lot I would like to make sure the carbs are balanced, but I cant seem to locate the screw for the adjustment.

Vacuum balance is performed via the screws under the top caps of #1,3 and 4 carbs.

The Idle Mixture Screws are in front of the carb bowls.
