Original coils last longer than a Wonka Everlastinggobstopper. But, replacing or repairing the leads is a pain. That's usually why new owners opt for replacement coils.

Just make sure you get the proper ohm coils if you do swap them.

I've got 105/40 jets now. With the port/polish and big bore, am I going to need a bigger main jet?

It's more dependent upon induction and exhaust conditions. Pods or air box? 4:1 or 4:4 exhaust? Sure, a fire breather engine can benefit from more open jets, but only if the other systems are well-suited to match the changes. It's a balancing act from spark to muffler...

At this point I'm looking at running a 2-1 on each side exhaust. I have no idea of it's origin. I'll grab some pics of the baffles in a minute.

Air box at this point. Maybe pods someday but from what I've seen, tuning Pods is a pain in the arse.

Trying to keep busy doing as much as o can without having to buy anything.

I lied about nothing shiny.

With the tree it was because I had a can of rustoleum around.

With the sidecovers...I didn't want to mess up original covers with paint, so I sanded to 1500 then did finish grade steel wool. They're not perfect, but better than they were.

Ravie video looks like you continue to make progress. The upper case came out pretty nice. When I tore my 550 apart the bottom gasket just wouldn't give. I ended up splitting the cases. Hey if you have any extra parts you can list on the for sale section to help fund your build. Also I would highly recommend waiting on the stock bearings in the neck. All balls are so much nicer. It really is one thing I do to all my bikes no matter if I plan to keep or sell.

Yeah, I've got another motor (hate to sell pieces of it but it might be necessary) that good stuff on it, as well as another fender and some other stuff. We shall see. I posted up a nice working vintage Swan HF radio today...hopefully someone uses Buy It Now and helps me out. haha

Ravie,

Spend a little money on All Balls steering bearings.  It's a safety upgrade that is worth the money.

Your original steering bearings can be made to perform just as good as new bearings.....as long as there are absolutely no tiny marks of any kind on the races or balls, you keep them properly greased, and you keep them properly adjusted.  The properly adjusted part is the #$%*.
If it works good, it looks good...

Screw the maintenance of the originals; upgrade to All Ballz and be done with it. Hence it is called an "upgrade".  ::)

hahaha. I don't think anyone disagrees with that. I'm just trying to budget!  (Though I have deleted a lot off my list that wasn't necessary, including a wiring harness, since the one I have seems to be ok.)
