Maybe I could do stacks with prefilters. I dislike the look of the stock airbox greatly.

Is there anything I really should replace in the transmission while I'm there? Friction discs?

if you are tearing it all the way down primary chain replacement would probably be a good idea

Thoughts on the friction discs? the motor has 26k on it...

I went out with the intent of getting the more complete bike torn down as far as I could. I really wanted the engine out tonight.

But that didn't happen.

I had a hard time getting the forks out (but was finally successful). Played around with what ideas I had to get the motor out. None of my friends found themselves able (or willing) to come help, so i decided I needed to get the fork and swingarm off. (the forks were horrible.)

I finally got it all town down to just the frame, and now I find it impossible to get the engine out.

I was tired and stressed and frustrated which is usually a good point to walk away. So I did.

As she sits....

If your local friends won't help removing the motor, we cyber friends will.  Many here have done it one man show including myself. You'll need to remove oil filter if havens done so.  I'm going to be pulling my 75 750F soon too! Just to fix the rubber pucks leaks

Remove the filter. Then flip the whole package on its side, pull the engine mount bolts, and bingo.

When you flip it onto it's right side, place some magazines or phone books on the ground to create some space between the motor and the ground.

Then while on the ground, grab the frame and work it off, jiggling and wiggling as you go. It's best to remove the engine mouthing bolts once it's on it's side. If you pulled the fronts, then the mount tends to wedge in, and becomes a bit more headache to wrest free.

Once the motor is out, install a "frame kit" from member 754. It's a no-weld install and will make install and removal a snap, and head service possible while in the frame.

But the frame has to come off at an angle, then lift, then tilt, then lift....

Yes sir!  I think I'm gonna take it outside and hit it with a hose before I even start disassembly. I'll shove some rags in the intake/exhaust holes.

I'm going to bring my frame and tank into work tomorrow to see if I can get a guy to help me shorten the tank to fit. I may even take some parts to hit in the sandblaster at work (brackets n stuff). I need to get a set of JIS drivers.

Dumbest question ever: Are the throttles on CB750's "push-pull" with two cables?

I know, i JUST took that apart but...a lot of nuts and bolts have passed through my ratchet this week...

Trying to build a cart to budget and I just couldn't remember. Since I'm doing new bars I'm going to get the throttle assembly with the grips. Just need to know if I need a single or a double.

Thanks guys!

If you haven't already, grab a copy of Mark Paris/Hondaman's book before you tear into the engine, highly recommended

No disrespect intended to him(seriously), but it looked to me when I did some poking around as though that book costs 100 dollars?  That's the most ridiculous book price I think I've ever seen. At that price I will probably never buy it. That's a lot of parts. Bob Helt wrote a similar style book about the Corvair which I purchased a few years ago. I think it was 35 bucks.

If I'm mistaken about that I apologize. That's just what I saw.

Its a good book written by a well respected member here. the cost is related to the limited audience. Theres not a million of us cb750 guys out there. Its also filled with color photos and detailed info. It goes on sale every so often. I would recommend it but hey, no worries either way.

That amount of money is saved every time you use the book to tar down an engine, rebuild an engine, or build a bike. Knowledge and experience on how to do things correctly the first time, cannot be valued.

Much of the knowledge of members here is gleaned from their own experience having used that book. Penny wise and Pound foolish-  :o

I understand that. I really do. 100$ is just a lot of dough. Especially for a guy attempting to build with a limited budget.

It's not about being pound foolish. It's about not having pockets lined with cash. I understand fully that it's a GREAT item. But it's still a pretty penny.

Anyway, I'm not trying to beat the guy up. I know the knowledge in it is indispensable. We'll see. I'd like to have it, for sure.

Sure be great if there were a cheaper PDF version! :-)

Its alright, I was in a similar boat when I started last year, but I am extremely glad that I bought it and was just sharing what I learned. There is enough collective knowledge on these forums to help you through an entire build, but a physical copy with over 40+ years of first hand knowledge in front of you, as you're wrenching away, is no match for a PDF or having the forum open on a device in the shop. Just my 2c of course, good luck with your project, having the engine out on the bench was one of my most fun moments with the project.

In that case I cannot recommend that you try rebuilding one of these engines.  You will spend well over $100 on gaskets.  Just try to find a used, good condition engine instead.   You are gonna need a lot of expensive parts just to take it apart and put it back together again and it is unlikely that you will get it right without as many reference sources as possible.  These are not small block chevy's.
If it works good, it looks good...
