Here's my list of needs, as stripped down as I could get it:

The first list is everything that is in my Wishlist at DCC. The second are things I can get from wherever. (Tires will come from Bike Bandit)

D8EA Spark Plugs
Exhaust Pipe Crush Gaskets
Gaitors (Could I run without these?)

This list still doesn't include the POR-15 kit I'm going to need for the CX tank, or the paint to paint it with. It also does not include the seat pan I need to buy as the only seat I got with the bike was trashed and the plastic pan was/is cracked in several places.

OK, I'm gonna comment below just to keep this making sense for both of us:

Stock size tires. 100/19 front 120/18 rear. (What, 3.25/19 and 4.00/18?)

What's Slingshot?

Why dump the inline filter? The CX tank didn't have an internal one.

I'll separate the stuff you've got from the list and get with you via e-mail.

I have an ignition switch with a key too. I will check how good/bad the gaitors are that came with mine, may have the throttle grip tube for you as well. PM me if interested.

Front brake pads, look for a Daido set on ebay, generally cheap.
For banjo copper crush washers, Uncle Terrence recommend Harley Davidson's, because they have an o-ring fused in them and work a lot better. I don't know the part number, I'll be buying these for my own build as well as soon as I find the correct part number.

I have a points plate that functions. I took it off my 750 a few weeks ago. Send me PM with mailing info and I will send. At latest tomorrow I can send as I have to mail Cal something anyways. I also have a metal throttle sleeve I can throw in.

I've got all of the original electrics but I don't know if any of them function. Since many of them are dependent on the motorcycle to 'work" I don't even know if it is possible to test them until it comes time to fire the bike up.

I'll check out the pads. The DCC ones I think are 35 bucks..

TEWS!  Hey, I've got two points plates with points on them. I just thought it was a "you should do this" type of thing. Should I check them out and use the cleanest one?

I went out and looked. My donor motor had what looks to be a fairly new TEC (That's stock Honda isnt it?) points plate and matching TEC points on it. Dated 5.9.02. Even the cloth on it looks clean. I'll clean up the contact surfaces and use it. So We can scratch that from the list.

Yes. The welcome here has been awesome. Many of the guys in the Corvair world which I was a part of for a few years are like this, as well. Just a lot of good guys willing to help, and because it's such an obsession, most of them had lots of extra parts to share. haha  (sound familiar???)

I really appreciate everyones help. Maybe someday we can all meet and I'll buy a round!

This is the good all TEC plate and points I have. The problem with the breakers is the contacts on both sides are pitted on one end (the missing material is on the opposite contact) as seen below:


The contacts on the other plate look good, but the breakers themselves look to be of lower quality, though still Japanese made.



So, I guess the question is...do I file down the current points contacts, or do I swap on the MIJ stamped ones with good looking contacts.

Yeah. That's what the "tune-up kit" was on there. basically just that - Points and condensers.

AWESOME!  I'm thinking about putting the shift cover and stator covers from the donor engine on the 'bay. Maybe I could just sell the whole thing in pieces.

Decided on a brake light, I think. This style found on late Model Corvairs, another passion of mine (though I no longer own one)

Also, I got a message from my brother in law, who is a fabricator/welder who lives in NC, asking me if there was something he could do to help my project. I asked if he thought if I gave him enough measurements if he could fab me a rear seat/cowl for my bike and he was all for it, so I'm going to come up with something and send it to him and see what happens!

I think out of ease of fabricating I'm going to come up with a more "square" style, sort of like a dunstall style. I don't think he has english wheels or anything like that (I'm almost sure he doesn't) so it'll allow a cool design without being too terribly difficult. He does pretty awesome work, so I'm sure he can handle whatever I send!

Are you planning on using the stock seat hoop, or adding/cutting a new hoop in? If so, send him the new hoop as a template so he can get the contours perfect.

Where in NC? Maybe we can hook him up with a donor frame for fitment ease?

Your plate looks to be decent. Cal may be able to help on how to test it since the bike isn't assembled yet. Get a metal nail file and file the points. If it works that's money in your pocket. If not let me know. I can send anytime. Plus I will have to search as the wheel I got off a member seems to be to small for my 550? Weird but I'm clueless in regard to my build. I have done a few 550s. All went back together perfect. This one seems to be fighting every inch.

I think the style I'm going to go after is the razorback style Carpy makes. I see he just sold that bike on eBay for 7,100. Pretty good price for that bike.

Got to working on the head a bit today.



I bought a performance tool brand suction tool for lapping the valves...what a piece of sh!t. No matter how clean, will not stay stuck for more than a couple of turns. Really sucks because I want to get it done and do it the right way. May have to get some spray adhesive!

Found some great fuse boxes at o Reilly. Keeping that in mind for wiring!

Did some investigation on both of my sets of coils this evening. Both have some loose wires and all of my caps are burnt out. So, it looks like I'm going to need all new coils / wires/ caps.

Any recommendations for a new inexpensive replacement set? I know lots of vendors have parts, just not sure whose is the most complete and the best bang (spark?) for my buck.

Going through and cleaning up my wiring harness tonight. Not as bad as I thought, just a lot of cleaning and some mending to do. Nothing some crc, brushes, shrink hose, q tips and sandpaper can't fix.

Many opt for the Dyna coils. Others for the more stock style replacements. Both enable new wires and boots (hooray for modern technology).

I know they're cheap crap. It's a zero mile tire. Nearly no weather cracks. Tube holds air..

It's a 5.10-16 tire. Kinda neat. I was considering putting a Duro HF302B tire on it and using it.
