Finished reconnecting everything and fired Louise up... After some fuel screw adjustments (now at 2.25 turns)  she runs really good. Yes I still need to vacuum sync.  I built a manometer and was ready to use it today, but someone left the key on and the battery is dead... So the sync will have to wait until the battery recharges

Oooh yesss, that's fine for a nice idle but... you'll soon experience you have to turn back to a richer setting say 11/2 turn in order to have a good acceleration.

Thanks Deltarider I will keep that in mind. I attempted to vacuum sync last night... While not perfect it's much better...

Still a few thing to do before turning Louise back over to my son in law... I replaced the rear tire and tube, next is the front .  Also need to address a few small electrical gremlins.  We're getting closer to the finish line

I was able to take a quick spin on Louise last night... Idles great, but falls on her face a bit in the upper RPM ranges.  I agree I may need to richen her up a bit...  I will adjust the fuel mixture screws and see what we get.

Yes stock, other then (I think) the needles.  When I cleaned the carbs, I noticed the clips on position one...  I don't have the needle number in front of me, but I don't believe they're stock.  With stock needles, this bike should have the clips on position 4... I would have expected the plugs to show a lean condition, but no... they were on the rich side.  I couldn't change the needle position as within two of the slides I was unable to remove the screws... so he clip is staying at position one.  ;D

On the stand, high revs are clean, bit it seems to run out of steam in the upper RPM's when under load.  It also has a slight backfire under deceleration. To me (I could be wrong) but that's a sign of a lean condition.  I'll take another crack at her tonight and see if I can't fine tune it a bit and clean her up some more.

If your clips are in the lowest position, then that's very rich! The pop is more likely u burnt fuel due to too much fuel for the concentration of fuel/air caused by too much volume.

Carefully, remove the screws to correct the needle positions. Else, your motor will never run right, no matter how many other adjustments you make.

When you're at the needles you may as well write down the stamped in (6 digits) number.

Well guys my son in law came up to collect Louise.  I had him take her around the block to make sure she warned up... The fuel / air mixture was at 2 1/4 turns.  We decided to start at 1 turn out and adjust from there...  At one turn, it would slightly backfire at idle... then we went to 1 1/4  turns out.  Better so I had him,take her for a ride ... Better but not quite there... It was getting closer so I went to 1 3/4 turns out.  I told him this time to go up a certain road where I know he can open it up and put the hammer down. He came back and said at 1st it shuttered and it was like she shook it off and then just roared. He said I don't know what you did but Louise has never run so well.  I took her for a little spin and yes she's running pretty good.

Update: I just talked to him this morning... He was planning on taking Louise to work... He said he flipped on the choke, and barely touched the start button and she roared to life...  Louise is a bit cold blooded, but after letting her warm up.. he headed of to work.   He said Louise is running like a fine Swiss watch... smooth.  I guess we stumbled onto the correct settings... but I'll take it...  8)  My Son-in-Law informed me when he came to pick her up, that 2 years ago on this date he bought Louise, and its the same date she's been reborn... 

At this point I'm going to let him have some fun, and will check the plugs to make sure all is well.

I want to thank everyone for their help and support.   Louise is back, and better then ever ....
