Engine paint advice
« on: July 05, 2014, 11:57:46 PM »
Looking for silver/alloy engine paint and have couple of questions.

a) what would minimum temp range be including barrel?

b) any suggestions of brand/type or product?

I have some ceramic caliper paint that looks great but says temperature rating is intermittent?

Don't my spending on a good product but most people won't ship aerosols.

Needs to be available in Australia preferably.

Most threads I've seen where the outcome has been both durable and brilliant have used Duplicolor or VHT brand paints. Both have formulas rated to 500* F, and each has a "cast aluminum" color available.

A common technique appears to be pre-heating the case before painting to purge as much grease and contaminates out of the cases, a final cleanse and rinse with Acetone, then primer/paint. Curing in the oven is also highly suggested.

I hope/trust those brands are available in Oz. I think Dave500 just referenced one of them in a recent reply as well.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of it's victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S.
