I was doing a little searching online and came across some info about my 'new to me' antique vise on Google.com  I think what I have is a Stephens Patent vise    They look to be very strong

Other than "Gee it sure looks like a novel contraption" and "I wouldn't stick a finger in there because you probably have to mash harder to make it turn loose"; Sorry, no.

Here my vice, spanish-made Irimo brand. The biggest in the range, 150mm wide (about 6 inches), forged steel, round guide.

I did find out I have an 'Anson Stephens Patent' vise here so I had a machine shop make me a handle for it that will thread into the solid threads that my friend Gil the welder had cut into it after drilling a large hole into the broken cast iron handle mount.This is a SOLID vise so I had them make me a 16" solid steel handle;it's the handle that always breaks because guys try to add a bit more torque to it w/ a hammer and that shorter orig. cast iron handle wasn't designed for so much shock that way.
I'll show a 'before' pic(before I completely removed all of old Gil's sig. ugly yellow paint) and after I refinished it; tell me what you think
