Beware of aftermarket brake levers
« on: July 07, 2014, 01:33:27 PM »
Bought this emgo brake lever from DCC a few months back and while doing some quick stops today it snapped off. Just a heads up to anyone else that might be using one.

I wouldn't want the replacement, too scared that the next time the lever gives out will be an emergency situation
that must have been an uncomfortable ride home ;D
It was a very slow cautious ride home

I've used EMGO and BIkemAster aftermarket levers and have never had an issue like this. It sounds like a manufacturing defect on the one that broke on you.

Must have been decades ago I read a warning in a German motormagazine about aftermarket levers. Can't remember what brand. Why not have Honda, new or from a scrapyard?

I've had it happen too. Not even using force. Cheap chinese crap is what it is but when you're life is at stake, that's just wrong. I could see a huge lawsuit over this if someone got hurt or killed from a brake lever breaking like that.

Thanks for the heads up.  It's a component that will be under its hardest use at the time you need it most of all, so I'd suggest getting rid of any of these. Most of mine are probably genuine Honda, but is there a way to tell an Emgo one- is the name cast onto them or anything?
