I'm having trouble getting my 72 CB500F to idle properly.
I did a full carb rebuild in the spring. Inside the bowls everything was very clean, no gunk, no rust. I replaced all the parts regardless.
Starting up the engine, the RPM's jump to 3k right away in neutral. I can put the choke on and bring it down to 800-1000 no problem. But as soon as I open up the choke, it jumps right back to 3k.
Once the bike is warmed up and I'm riding it, the problem persists. In gear it's fine but once I disengage the clutch the RPM's jump back up. I try backing out the idle screw with no different results. Air/fuel screws are 1.5 turns out per Clymer. I tested for vacuum leaks and don't appear to have any.
I'm guessing that one or more of the pilot jets are clogged and once the RPM's start rising because of it, all of them get bypassed and go to the main jets. Does this sound correct? I'm absolutely dreading taking these off again. If this is the case guessing I just need to blow some carb cleaner down the jet holes, yes? Thanks!
