CB350F - So I am going to order some new dyna coils in the next couple days.  I figured what the heck let's just replace it all.  So do You Guys have any last minute thoughts.   Here is what I am thinking about ordering:  (Questions in parenthesis)

New Dyna 5 Ohm Coils

New Dyna Copper Spark Plug Wires
( I remember reading something saying getting the suppression wires does nothing for the bike?)
( Also they are 7mm size or 8mm? )

New NGK Caps
(Size?)

And New Plugs
( Since I am going all out should I do NGK, Denso, Platinum, Iridum?)

Thoughts?

Cheers

-James

  • Bike almost back to the 70's 2015
I bought Dyna supression wires, grey 8mm to be cut. Connector to be crimped to be connected to the coil. Plug caps already mounted from delivery. I bought these wires when I had Dyna ignition module and coils. 5ohms. tried 3 ohms but they drained the battery rather quick. When crimping dyna wires, do it correctly. I have seen photos on internet where the connector is mounted wrong.

I have now OEM points (TEC) with Dyna 5ohms coils. Hondaman ignition module to be mounted
I have bought new cheap wires from an auto shop to test. Dyna coils have auto type connection.

One thing that I learned is to not install the expensive Iridium plugs until ignition and carb settings (float levels and jets) are 100%. I fouled my Iridium plugs direct... now garbage. Use NGK OEM style to begin with.

Photos below not in exact order. How I crimped the terminals to fit into the coils.

So It looks like I should buy the dyna crimping tool.  I can always use more tools!

I just did this to my 500. Dyna 5ohm coils, copper core wires, NGK plugs, Dyna ignition. I used a standard crimping tool. I also did not order NGK boots. I just used the ones that came with the Dyna wires.

If they're the red silicone type, they're fine. Only these can't accomodate a resistor and you'll need "R" type spark plugs. NGK has a similar product. Have a look here: https://www.louis.de/en/produkte/spark-plug-connectors-and-leads/538
The red NGK has an inbuilt 5Kohm resistor https://www.louis.de/en/artikel/ignition-lead-ngk/10035350?list=5983887

  • Nuthin' taps ya out quicker than cole corn likker!
Or if you want a cool look you can go with the old vintage copper strand cloth wound with a solid color cover and a different color tracer.  I went with black and a red tracer.  Works fine, fails safe and drains to the bilges!

I just went back and looked and its a whopping 1.10 / ft with eight different color combinations sure to please any extroverts needs!  The terminals are an astounding .25 each.  A purist could go broke at those prices!  For the price of a set of dyna wires you could probably have a different color set for each season or to change to color coordinate with your wardrobe!  LOL

Tom's Engine Barn is the place.
