Topic: Suzuki AN400 Idler bearing replacement (scooterphobes alert)

I kick myself for not taking better pictures of the subject. So I'll lace some YouTubes.  But basicaly there is a bearing that dries out and makes a god awful noise when you spin the wheel.

The noise goes completely away when the clutch locks up and goes down the road. But with the engine off, and just push it, it rattles. Harmless, but Unsellable. First is to remove the Tupperware. Soldiers row of bodywork rivets.


Some bolts and covers gets me to here:

An e Impact gets the nuts off, the variator slides off the front, the clutch and CVT slides off the rear.

The bearing in question looks like the one on top, a needle bearing, about an inch wide, but is actually located at the bottom of this rig, about to be drifted down between the wood blocks.

Not sure what's wrong with the belt in that vid, I just like to watch the CVT come and go.

YEah that's how they get the "continuously variablle transmission." The front pully and the rear pully open and close based on rpms and load and the belt drifts in and out driving off the sides of the belt. What looks like teeth on the belt are not, they are there to accommodate the range of flexing the belt goes through, to adjust the ratios.

Sort of like that.   

You can buy different weights for the variator (front pulley) and even completely different variator designs, and different pads for the clutch to enhance performance.

Got the bat in, pre-flight done, cranked it a few times and it fired. Probably been 3 years since it ran, but gave me no resistance.

I knew the wheel issue was fixed just sitting there not running. Now I know its fixed running. Took it a few laps up the driveway. Felt good.
