Hi again

It's been that long since I first visited here I though I'd say hello again. A few years ago I picked up a 77 cb550k3. Well you know the story a hour here and there and things 'progress' fairly slowly. However things are coming back together now and I'm on the dreaded wiring job. I'm leaving out the electric starter (just keeping lights and brake lights) so was wondering where to connect the black wire from original regulator. The reading from the multi meter shows this (also white and green) as negative. Can't seem to find any reference in the search to this black wire. Any advice more than welcome

Come back to
www.sohc.co.uk
too!
I see you haven't visited for a couple of years - we have an ongoing (at the moment) debate about UK-spec wiring on 550s.

Thanks Steve, as I say it's been a couple of years but hopefully on the home straight now - will be swinging round .co.uk too

I thought the black was needed to complete the circuit and power the white field wire back to the alternator. As Thomas Edison said I have not failed. I've just found 10000 ways that won't work.

Any solid black wire is +12V, hot when the ignition (key) switch is on. The black wire that connected to the regulator needs to be connected to the regulator to supply the output to the white field wire.

Thanks Scottly that was what I'd imagined - just wanted to be sure . Would hate to have something melt out quietly and add to the wonder of it all. I've already spent a couple of hours just sitting looking at the wiring diagram trying to breath it in
