Cafe Weekend Trip 2014
« on: February 27, 2014, 10:06:23 PM »
Hey fellas,

Wookie and I are considering a weekend get away on the Cafe Hondas this summer.
Would love to ride some less familiar roads in Washington, Oregon, or Idaho.
I was thinking Coeur D'Alene Idaho might be interesting.
Haven't been there since 1998, but remember it to be a beautiful area.

Anyone planning on or interested in making a bigger group of it?
How about route suggestions?

Chime in
Jimmy

FJ - the CA3 from Hope to Creston looks like a killer ride, but i'm guessing you want out of your backyard  ;D
N WA/Idaho is good, HOT and dry Aug/Sept.
The WA395 in NE WA, around Kettle Falls and northward is pretty
The E section of US20 is right there, too (Kettle Falls to Tonasket)

The nicest loop I can think of for your ride would be HWY20 east ward to Newport a couple of miles to Sand Point, ID. Then take HWY 95 south to Coeur d Alene.

From there take Hwy95 south to Lewiston, ID and HWY129 south (turns into HWY3 in Oregon). HWY 3 to Enterprise, OR and Wallowa Lake. Beautiful place and great camping or lodging. Then make your way to LaGrande, OR on HWY82. From LaGrande get down to Baker City and then HWY7 westward to HWY26.

I love HWY26, there are so many things to see and the landscale is always changing. Then you can take HWY 26 all the way to Portland or to HWY 97 north as far north to the Canadian border. Although HWY26 through the Mt Hood area is quite stunning, you will just have to find an interesting route from PDX northward. HWY101 is fine then take the ferry on HWY 20 from Pt Townsend to Whidbey Island and go home from there.

That would be my dream weekend (maybe 3 day) road trip.

Fantastic suggestion Duanob.
That might just have to be the loop.

Any updates on the trip? When? Finalized route? Or has the trip already happened and I missed out?

Maybe Pimpzilla can make it up to you guys? The only real relay planning going on lately puts the lizard at Bonneville salt flats in late August. From there west is an open slate.

Jimmy,

After your excellent recommendations for my own trip into your part of the world (Old Hedley Road in BC, Lillooet to Pemberton, US101, US20), I sure feel like I owe you. Without knowing the area better though, the only thing I can suggest is Hudson Burger in Coer d'Alene, delicious burgers.

If you guys ended up around Enterprise like Duanob suggested I could meet up somewhere in that area. I probably wouldn't be with you guys the whole trip. Not too many cafe racers in the Boise area and I'd like to meet up with some enthusiasts and ride.

Hey Tom,

You did it? Cool!
Glad you liked the route and thanks for the Hudson Burger recommendation.
I'll be in Coer d'Alene on my Triumph Tiger in two weeks so I'll stop in for a burger.

Cheers
