Hmmmnnn............. Well I could rent you mine, but the shipping would kill the deal.

Still, what we need here is a central tool repository for members so they can rent "club" tools, like most bike clubs do? I know it sounds scary, but if you charge members the total purchase price as a security deposit (via paypal) and refund it once the tools are returned, (less rental, shippping and any late fees) there's virtually no risk, and the club makes a little money on the side to pay Glenn for all his work?

We could run a fundraiser (T Shirts, lapel badges, decals or even membership fees) to fund the purchase the tools, appoint a "Quarter Master" to look after them, and he/she can then be PM'd to stick them in a box and send them to the desperate member? We could start with the following items:

a. Morgan carb-tune,
b. Good quality timing light,
c. Float level gauge,
d. Chain breaker/riveter,
e. Piston pin extractor,
f.  Ring Compressor,
g. Multimeter,
h. Valve Spring compressor,
i. Clutch tool,
j. 0-20 ft lbs Torque wrench,
k. Alternator rotor extractor,and
l.  Plastic welder.

There are probably heaps of other items, but I didn't want to include things too big to ship via the Post Office, nor basic tools like sockets, wrenches, allen keys etc, that most of us already own.

A lot of us already own some of these things (being the sad bastard that I am, I've got at least one of everything I've listed above) but as has been mentioned before, they're expensive, and rarely used anyway, so why not? If it'll save people money, and generate funds for our club, it's gotta be good! Cheers, Terry. ;D

almost 6 days left on that ebay carbtuneII and already at 70 bucks including shipping... i'm guessing it goes for more than you could order one from morgan  :-\

My thought as well...and while that JC Whitney set is tempting, it's still only 4 cheap gauges...not even a rack to mount them on...

I'm a long way from synching yet...but the Morgan looks like the best bet...   :-\

thats the one I use the good old JCW one . mine came with a rack that they were mounted on also the dampeners and tubing . hooked it up and ran with it never had to even ajust  the needles . got it as i could not afford the Morgan

Wow, my cobbled together water manometer only cost me $8.  More money for beer I guess  ;D  It's good to see 12.5% of the respondents are as cheap, I mean financially conscious, as me.   :-*

I used to use the Morgan Carbtune, but then I was told that "REAL men tune carbs by ear with a screwdriver on the carb body" so that's what I do now.

Just kidding.  I use the Carbtune.  Makes it a SNAP! ;D

You don't happen to have it stored in the original box...with the JCW part # on it...do you???

The one linked on pg 1 has no rack, no hook, no adapters...at least not shown, and not mentioned...

The jcw gauges are mounted on a flat retangular plate thet has holes drilled in the top corners.
You attach the "S" hooks from bungee cords in the holes, and drape the cords around and over your rear view mirrors. They come with vacuum hose and inline restrictor valves to dampen (smooth) needle fluctuation, along with the adapter tubes that screw into each carb. I saw these same guages on ebay going for over 100.00 U.S. recently, so JCW is definately a better deal if you decide to go that route. They take a little practice to get good with, but you can get pretty close with them. I've used them for some time on my 750 with good results, but I'd still like a Morgan.

I would suggest we add to Terry's list at least one size hammer.  When
frustration sits in...it can substitute for any of the other tools.  ;D

what do the rest of the cobbled together vacuum gauge users use  for tube restrictors. smeees like an IV tube shut off would work nicely.

aquarium air valves, set all of them using one carb to essentialy sync them tor read the same from the same source.  you can get them in a ganged configuration which makes them convenient.

The ol' EMGO setup was missed.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4627373731&category=35597

I have these, but frankly haven't used them.  Last time I synched my own carbs was on my 500, and that was using a set of mercury tubes.  My 550 carbs were done (I'm ashamed to say) by paid help.

Did anyone mention the new California laws that will take effect from July first?
These laws will make it impossible to buy mercury in California, and also other US states are following the California laws.
Since Motion Pro is a California based Company, they will not sell the Mercury sticks, at least not with mercury, anymore.

I don't think that's a bad law mate, that mercury is a nasty thing. You probably know all about Mercury poisoning, but did you know that mercury was used for many years in the manufacture of hats to stiffen the material, (amongst other things) and many hat makers ingested mercury through the pores in their skin, and the mercury poisoning drove them mad, hence the term "Mad Hatters Disease" as in the "Mad Hatter" in Lewis Carrol's "Alice in Wonderland"? If not, there's some useless info for ya, ha ha! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Well after f*cking around with a cheap set of gauges for a couple of years, I was rapt with how good the carbtune is, so I think I'll write to them and suggest that they double the price!  ;D

No worries mate, so re: my previous post, the rental deposit will be $202 plus $18 for the Paypal fees, then $60.00 for shipping to/from the US, $10.00 insurance, $16.00 for packing and gas money, now let me just total that up for you, so that's $306.00 sir, less $202.00 when/if the carbtune is safely returned, so then, the total cost to you after returning it is now only $104.00 for the loan! Geez, I guess if you had to hire it twice you'd maybe be better off just buying one? Oh well, can I interest you in an oil cooler while we're at it, I'm happy to combine shipping? Ha ha, Cheers, Terry. ;D

A few years back, I wanted to overclock my PII CPU's...nobody here in the States had a 2x60mm heatsink; I had to order from a supplier in Oz...I was amazed at how fast and how reasonable the air shipping/postage rates were...(I ordered five)...Since then, I've lost my fear of ordering from overseas... :D
