CR 750 Style Triple Clamp

Any body interested in a CR750 style triple clamps. I wanted to design a top clamp that looks like a cast CR750 clamp. I don't mind taking a stock CB clamp and grinding it down and welding but I thought it would be nice to have something I know will be strong and not compromised. I'm hoping there are others here on the forum who are interested in going in together to offset the cost.
Making one part is obviously more expensive than making multiples.
If we get enough people interested, I'll send out the part for a quote.

I would think there would be lots of interest if the offsets and tube sizes were made for GL replacements. It seems to be a very common upgrade to the 750 for dual discs.

I would agree.  Your design has a better profile than the block billet one from DCC.

If all sizes were variable it would be even better....width, offset and fork sizes... ;D   Perfect world anyone.... ;)

calj737, Do you happen to know the offsets by chance? I'll also do some research but maybe you have those specs already. It wouldn't be hard to modify the design to accommodate the GL offset.
What year GL would you recommend? I'm assuming you're talking about a GL1000.

I'd let Retro provide the best offset formulas. He's got heaps more knowledge than me on which/what 750 offset packages are most desired.

I would say that maintains stock offset would be preferred:
50mm for a 750F
60mm for a 750K

The tubes on the the GL forks are 37mm (up from the 35mm forks on all CB750 and CB550 models). I don't know the fork to fork spacing measurement, but I'm fairly certain that the forks are spaced wider apart on the GL than the CB750.

1975-1977 GL with stock offset.  Cool, thanks for the feedback!
Looks like I'll have to buy a GL front end from ebay for test fitting.
Does anyone hear know the distance between the fork tubes on the GL's?

First of all, let me replace the word hear with here, from my last post  :'(

I just purchased a 1975 GL 1000 top clamp from ebay. Once I receive the clamp, I'll start modeling a CR style clamp for the GL conversion. Maybe this will get more interest.

I appreciate that you are pursuing a CR type of top clamp, but I will say that the style of inverted ears on the tubes, makes it very difficult to mount gauges within the "V" as a clustered pair. What tends to result is gauges that are not straight to the eyeline.

So if you do venture on to make these, I'd love to see you give some real thought to gauge mounting options, unless that is completely contrary to the styling intent.

 Thanks for the insight. I personally would prefer a clamp without instrument mounts, but I do see how most people would want them. It wouldn't be too hard to add that feature and have both options available.
Would you recommend I use the stock configuration for the mounts?

Hi Ryan,

I think that was Cal's comment.  The DCC top triple tree has optional mounting brackets to fit the stock gauges on the bike -- two mounts that bolt into the bottom and then bolt onto the stock gauge carrier.  I would think that would be a good option.

Nice fixture design.  One can machine most of the surfaces using that. 
Computer design certainly does come in handy.

Very nice fixture..
 Fixture holds workpiece..
 Jigs, guide cutting tools,  ie drilling hole in specific location..

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the positive feedback! I think 754 pretty much nailed it with his description of what a fixture is. Ive made a little more progress. Just refining the fixture a bit while waiting for my new slitting saw to arrive. Here is a pic of the fixture positioned in the vise while a slitting saw cuts the slit for the clamp.

Quick update on the CR750 style top clamp.
I've just made my first attempt at machining the part. Here's a picture of the bottom side of the top clamp.
The next step will be to machine the top side. The last step will be machining the slits and the holes for the clamping bolts.
