All Alone in Da Shop....
« on: July 09, 2014, 04:33:34 PM »
How many of you guys suffer from flake-itis?

Friends you've helped work.on their vehicles, buddies you like to hang with..

You get a bike, and they all tell you to give them a call when you're working on it.

But none of them ever seem to be available to make good on it.

Sucks. I'm the kind of fella that likes company in the shop, and just in general. It feels like pulling teeth to get anyone to come have a beer and turn wrenches.

Pity party for one, please...

Time to head out to the shop!

HA!

Buckley the shop dog is a good boy. He knows to stay out unless I tell him he can come in.

Big thing is having people around to BS with and when it comes time to do things like...remove stuck rusty forks and pull engines...there's enough muscle to do it.  I have a single car garage and I don't have fancy lifts (no milk crates even, apparently) so some of the work I do just plain sucks from a labor standpoint.

I saw a guy in town on a yellow CB yesterday. Looked like hell but still going!

I just moved into someone else's shop and never left. But in that circumstance it is prohibitive of working alone because he usually likes to be there.  But he's been working on bikes since he was twelve, too, so that's a bonus.

If you want to know who your friends are, ask them to help you move..
If you want to be left alone , tell them you are moving someone...
Now you know how high priority their bikes will be , next time they need help..

Radio on and undisturbed is how I like the garage, but quiet is pretty rare at my place.
My 4 year old twin daughters spend more time in the garage with me than either of my older boys do.
They like to go to the stealership when I have parts to pick up and sit on the 50/70cc dirtbikes  ::)

Know how you feel. I'd do anything for most anyone but if i need help pulling an engine or doing something that exerts some energy...crickets.

Now if there's beer (that I bought) and nothing really to do then the come over...
You CAN do great things...with enough beer.

My bikes are my friends as well.   I only have a small hand full of good friends and as we are getting older a couple of them are starting to think they are becoming hyper intelligent for some reason or another. It's gets more annoying every time I  talk to them..   Only 1 of them's into bikes.

I would KILL for someone to come help out that actually knew what they were doing. That way, at least one person in my garage would know what they were doing.

I never rely on anyone for help.  Idk if it's the way I was raised but I'd rather get something done myself and only have some one help if it's a must.

I love the solitude, the only time I ask for help is when it's time to get a bike off the bench or to get an engine up on the bench.  I can spend all day and night alone in my workshop.  Well, except sometimes my dog hangs out, but she takes off when the power tools come out.
