Left over o-rings -- did I miss anything?
« on: January 12, 2017, 07:21:35 AM »
After putting the engine together, I've found I have a couple spares leftover from the kit I bought from cyclex.

I have one that looks to be the same as the ones under the cam holders, and one that appears to be the same as the screw-in oil gallery caps.

So to be sure, o-rings I'm sure are in from memory:

1 between the cases (oil gallery)
2 for the galleries between the case and cylinders
2 for the galleries between the cylinders and head
4 little ones under the cam holders
1 in the metal plug under the alternator cover
3 under the screw-in gallery caps
1 small thick one under the transmission bearing holder on the left side
8 under the tappet covers
3 oil pump

1 neutral switch (I don't remember if I put a new o-ring on this yet...I'll check when I get home, because it might be the bigger extra o-ring I have)

Did I miss anything?

What engine is this? I've used their kits on my 750 twice. Don't remember having left overs

It's a '78 750K. There are a few leftovers for known reasons I'm ok with -- I didn't replace seal under the alternator rotor (can always do that later if needed, but I doubt it'll be necessary), and there's an extra output seal because I had to use the late seal for my late engine.

I'm at work right now so I don't have pics of it, but the reference o-rings are:

91318-ME5-003 (5.6X1.9)
94608-40000 (19.4X2.8 )

Both those o-rings appeared to have been missing from the kit, so I haven't replaced them. I'm almost certain the small one is too thin for the points shaft, but I'll check. Starter o-ring is much bigger I thought, but I'll double check that too.

The 5.6x1.9 is one of the suggested sizes that go around the oil jets and the 2 round recesses under the cam towers.

Yep, got all 4 of those...it's possible that this extra little one is an old o-ring, as it's not the most pliable o-ring I've ever touched, but I don't think it looks compressed at all.

I was less organized than I could have been with all this, since I built the engine over several months, waiting on parts here and there.

The old ones I just removed definitely  had flat spots on them. Always a possibility they just packed in 5 instead of 4 by mistake or something.
