master sticking after rebuild
« on: July 21, 2014, 04:49:16 PM »
Rebuilt a master and the action was fine. I have not filled it with fluid yet because the other day I went and mashed the lever in it was very slow to retract like its sticking.  Is this because it is "dry" or something else? Most old masters devoid of fluid still spring back just fine but then again they still do have some residual fluid in the bore lubing things up I would imagine....thoughts welcomed fellas~

Ive never pulled in lever after rebuilding m/c's until Im ready to bleed brakes and reservoir is full of fluid. Did you clean the inner cylinder and lube it with fluid before installing new internal parts, and I also throw some b/fluid on the parts when installing also just to make sure everything is good and slick.

I have had it stick a little before I started using brake lube. Couldn't resist playing with it

Thought about this and though I did polish the bore out with steel wool and a drill and lightly lubed ,I am thinking no lubrication with fresh rubber is the culprit. Gonna lube her up and give it a go with the fill and bleed. Guess I just got ahead of myself.

If you assemble with brake parts assembly lube like you are supposed to, you won't have a dry sticking problem, or risk damaging brand new rubber components while trying to operate it dry.
