CB550 Cam chain tensioner blade question
« on: July 22, 2014, 08:55:25 PM »
Hi

Anybody able to tell me if the CB550 cam chain tensioner blade has a specific orientation in fitting into the cam chain tensioner assembly? The shape isn't symmetrical, it has differing bends either end.

I forgot to check the old one before removing, there are no marks indicating up or anything similar. As you can see, left end of the tensioner blade is straighter, and the right end has a much more significant curve. New tensioner is the top one.

Or does this have no effect?
Thanks in advance.

On this topic, how does one go about getting the tensioner assembly back in, and seated in the groove in the lower case?
I keep getting the adjuster screw fouled on the case, and cannot get anywhere near getting the screw into its hole.

its a wrangle with the barrel on,if the barrel is off I have it inserted first then lower the lot down, drop the pan when you fit the new tensioner!make sure its lower end goes into the little slot it lives in,its so easy to miscue it and almost impossible to spot from above!heres one I found miscued.

Got him.
Thankfully I spied that photo recently where you had posted it on another thread. I was able to slide the barrels up just enough to get the tensioner in, without having the rings come out of the bores. Double checked it was seated properly.
Cheers Dave!

Nice picture Dave.  Do you have picture of tensioner properly seated?

I've noticed a lack of Dave's wisdom & banter around the forums of recent, hopefully he'll be back from the beer run soon.

I think I've got a picture of that somewhere Gold, I'll see if I can find it - although I don't think theres much to see from below when it's seated?
