Gas Tank Stripe
« on: July 24, 2014, 09:00:44 PM »
Were the gas tank stripes on a 75 750 K cleared over from the factory. Got my tank cleaned, and primered ready for paint.

Every tank I've seen from pre-76 seemed to have them applied over the paint. This topic has been raised previously with lots of dissenting posts.

Unless you are doing a parcours resto, I'd shoot clear over them to help protect them.

Sorry, I know that's not the definitive answer you seek.

Better yet, forget the stickers...if your painter is really good have him paint them on for you.

Thanks Guys, I'm painting my self with a flake apricot kit from VMR. The decals that were there weren't cleared over from previous owner.
That's why I was wondering.

Katman, are you using the rattle can version or the spray gun? That place is not far from me and I've considered trying them. Could you keep us posted on your results?
i've got a 75k that is planet blue, and have an extra tank that I'd like to do in flake apricot red. My tank is original, and the decals are not cleared over from the factory
just an fyi. :)

DH, My friend used some of there aerosol clear and had fantastic results. I am going to use there aerosol kit with epoxy primer.
I'll take a pic when done.
