I've experienced that predetonation noise before on another bike. It was the similar in every gear when you twisted the throttle too much, and even worse in 5th where the gearing is for speed not power.

On the other hand, this morning when the bike was cold, there was no crunchy noise.

Baffled

What size (not part number) bearings fit the back wheel and sprocket Cush drive?

Wheel bearings are 6304 (ID 20mm, OD 52mm, width 15mm)
Sprocket bearing is 6305 (ID 25mm, OD 62mm, width 17mm)
Any suffix to the bearing size usually denotes the type of seals or shields.
Is there a Kamen bearing store where you are at?

Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

Wheel bearings, especially the sprocket one. $100 repair bill, parts and labour.

On the road again ...

 8) That's a pretty reasonable repair bill! I'd like to read more of the story; should I check your blog?

No, the bearing supplier just sent the wrong one.

Boy, is it ever nice to not have that crunchy feeling!
