Shift forks
« on: July 27, 2014, 11:33:20 PM »
Hello All,

Have a few questions about the middle shift fork on an F model transmission. I have several different forks and am unsure which is the best one to use. The numbers are as follows: C28Y, tip is .425" thick, the side is .530". The next fork is #C27R, the tip is .430"thick and the side is .540 thick. The fork i put in the motor the last time i rebuilt is # C56L, the tip is .350" and the side thickness is .540"- this fork has marks on it now so its likely bent.

The questions are: are all center forks the same or is there one year or number better than the other??
: what number shift fork is supposed to be in the 78 F model???

Thanks in advance for the help.

I do plan to use the thickest forks out of the ones i have, i'll replace the fork shaft, drum and pawls just to be sure. The bike wouldn't shift correctly and has an airshifter so i'll be putting all new components on as well to include the air cylinder, switching valve and the air kill assembly. They've been on the bike for since i built it in 1998.
