Got the gauges in the mail today. Thanks Stev-o!!! Started disassembly, and step 1 complete in less than 15 minutes. Set mileage to 2000, what my bike has on it.




No way to remove damper pot on this tach, so they are different.

Rough looking, but function, and mechanism is clean! Just needs some lubrication and cosmetics now!

Yea those are late K2/early K3 style ones. Little lube is all they take to work well.

Stev-O Marcel is probably the best guy to do these perfectly right. His SS rings aren't easy to crimp without proper tools which I don't think anyone but Marcel has. For my K2, I had help from Jerry H who had already done his K2 set pretty nicely. Even he mentioned the new SS ones were tough. For my K3, I simply polished up and reused the old ones and was able to do a modest job myself ;)

I'm aware of Marcel, he restoration work is excellent.  But his services are expensive and shipping to Europe is not cheap.

Take my Kaw 500 H1 gauges for example.  There is a Triples forum member in FL that totally [mech & cosmetic] restores them for $100 a gauge, just had mine done. Too bad he wont do Honda gauges.

For restoration Marcel's parts are amazing quality if your pieces are too far gone, no question there. My goal here is to take LOTS of pictures and explain everything I run into in detail to show people who want to give it a try that it's not that hard. This is my first time diving into them, but with an eye for detail and some patience, I'm sure anyone can do it. As far as offering a service, I have my first kid on the way in about a month so I don't think I'll be able to commit time haha!

Got rid of some rust and painted with primer. Filled tach damper pot, lubed with lithium grease, tested on bike,. It is so smooth! Still waiting on faceplates from cb750faces,  then I can get these put back together.

I see what you mean now about the shipping. I know it has nothing to do with the vendor, as he shipped within a couple days, but geez it takes a while. I'm sure US customs has some part in the delay too. Hopefully will be here before the weekend.

So I finished these up today. I will take better pics tomorrow in good light. Crimping those rings back kicked my butt!


Had to drill for reset knob. 7/32 on my stepped drill bit came out perfect

Thanks again Stev-o, much easier to take apart gifted parts! Even better than looking new, they work great too! Finally have good gauges. Hopefully these pictures will help someone else out when searching for this stuff. And, thanks Marcel for offering great resto products!

Not the most exciting update, but I added oil pressure gauge for peace of mind. I meant to do this a while ago but spaced it out. It was sooo easy to install. I may leave it on, or just use to check pressure periodically.  Looks OK too, just have to get used to it if I leave on.

Pulled out pump because although pressure was ok, I was wet sumping after every ride. Oil stopper looks to be good with no damage, but going to replace that and all o-rings around the 3 collars and a new screen while I'm at it.

Was pleased to see my oil pan looked like this after 2700 miles on new engine

And... My final small oil leak is getting on my nerves now. Small leak from final drive shaft seal is making the rear wheel nasty. Started removal today, installing tomorrow

I just bought one too.  Did you use Teflon tape or "pipe dope" on the threads?

Was it for sure that seal that was leaking and not just chain lube? My center stand gets greasy and I clean it every few trips, but its easy to tell its the chain lube based on how stringy it is (Lucas brand I think). The black paint could be hiding it, but that area looks too clean for an oil leak to me,  unless you already cleaned it before the pix?

Yeah, I'm sure it's not chain lube. Drips down kickstand, all over wheel. Not horrible, but oil for sure. And it's not coming from oiler hole either, I left the tray out and plugged the hole as well. The pic doesn't show it well, but it's oily as #$%* in there.

Just used some tape. Really like the gauge.
