CB400F Headlight Size?
« on: August 05, 2014, 06:36:28 AM »
Hey all,

so I have a 1975 CB400F I'm restoring and I need to purchase a new headlight... probably something like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/181358659636?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I am not using the stock headlight mounting bracket...I am going to use a fork tube headlight bracket:

or
http://www.speedmotoco.com/product-p/smc.41b.htm

I've been looking at 7" headlights but when I measured fork distance today (outside fork to outside fork) it was about 8". Would an 8" headlight fit better? Has anyone tried to fit an 8" headlight on their CB400F?

Thanks for the help!

Not sure how well 35mm clamps will fit on 33mm tubes.
I think an 8" headlight would look a bit huge on this smallish bike. Even a 7" looks a bit oversize to me, I assume that's why Honda picked the smaller OEM one. I would go with a 7" because various lamps are much more available.

Bodi, I just posed those clamps as an example of what I was going to use...you're right, I will use 33mm clamps.

I agree with you about the size, I prefer the 7"...but will the clamps fit even though the outside spacing from tube to tube is 8"?
