I'm finally a member of the "Other Bikes"!
« on: September 15, 2006, 11:16:39 AM »
 ;D ;D ;D
Just got delivered yesterday!  1976 CB360T.  It obviously needs a set of carbs and exhaust pipes, but those seem to go pretty cheap on ebay.  The inside of the tank looks like it was full of gas before it sat for years, or decades, completely varnished over and rusted, but feels solid, so it should clean up.  Only has a little over 9K on it and looks to have been stored inside, so the chrome and engine cases are in good shape, just dirty.

I just ordered a whole crapload of parts today, so as long as I can get some carbs and pipes soon, I should have this thing back on the road before Spring!

Looks good Gordon. The 360 is the bike my Dad had when I was a teenager, brings back alot of good memories. Your 76 appears to be in nice shape which should make for an easy enjoyable winter project.
How many times have you done this?  sometime you're gonna have to admit you have a problem  ;D

This will be my 5th motorcycle resurrection to date.  Even though it probably doesn't really need it, I'm going to completely tear it down and give it a thorough rebuild.

Admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery, so I'm never going to admit it! ;) ;D

My 350 will be my first frame up job. Otherwise i keep resurecting the 550 every 5 years or so...
Ive had several newer bikes (3 1983s) that were the ride and forget wonders of today. Just aren't as much fun though.

As disturbing as it sounds, I think I like building as much if not more than the ride! Probably the work-a-holic in me! :D

I met this cat yesterday with 5 or so 350 twins in various states of rebuild.

What are the differences between the two other than cylinders & the slight amount of cc gain?

Not exactly sure, but the 360 has SIX gears!! ;D  I never got over trying to upshift from 5th gear after owning a 400F, so it will be nice to finaly have something to shift up to again. :)

Your left ankle will get big. The gears are close together.

Look on the bright side, at least you won't be pulling the valve cover to replace the faulty cam chain tensioner like I'll be doing this winter.

As I've heard, the 360 was a redesign to meet emissions regulations.  I've yet to see any interchangable parts when looking at the engines side by side, I haven't torn them down too far though. One big thing I noted is the 350 has an access plate for the centrifugal oil filter.

The 360 had six gears 'cuz it needed them.

From my experience when hunting parts for my CB350 twin, not many parts are compatible. I've read the slipper chain tensioner of the 360 is very prone to failure.

I expect to have mine finished before Christmas. A lot of side projects going on at the same time...

They had the cam chain tensioner prob fixed by 76 I have been lead to beleive. Or hope as mine is a 76.
Started riding it with 4k miles on it 4 years ago and its close to 20k.  no probs other than owner induced.

That's good to hear.  This one only has 9K on it, so I'm hoping the motor is still in good shape.

According to the service bulletin I have, it was corrected somewhere by mid-'75.

Watch the front fender.  Its weak and have seen a few with the front part missing.  Mine started to tear so I welded it.   I did put all new bearings in it  and rubber.

Thanks Terry.  That was one of the first things that caught my eye when Bob dropped the bike off.  Seems like the slightest tap on the front of the fender would bend it into the tire.  I saved the front fender strut from my 550 when I shortened it and was thinking about trying to mount it up to the 360.

I like the cleaner look without the brace but the brace looks better than a torn fender.  The mount holes are in the  fork lowers.

BIG HINT pull the clutch cover and clean out the centrifugal filter on the crank PLUS the mesh strainer on the oil pickup. Use a new gasket and clean the filter annually OR 6,000 miles whichever first

Thanks for the tip.  I'm definitely going over this whole bike with a fine tooth comb before putting it back together.
