New blade fuse box - tail light fuse keeps blowing
« on: August 02, 2014, 06:50:51 PM »
alright, pulling my hair out with this one.  I installed a new 4 slot blade fuse box to replace the old glass one.  Spliced the existing wires and connected to the new box.  The main circuit works fine, and the headlight works fine.  The tail light keeps blowing through whenever I power the bike on.  Specifically, the running light portion of the tail light is what doesn't work when the fuse blows.  If i press the brake lever, the light lights up.  Brn/blu and brn/wht are connected to that fuse (same as original setup).

The weird thing is that if I connect the original box & glass fuse, everything works just fine.  What the heck?  Any thoughts?  Do I need to run thicker gauge wire out of the fuse box to match the original setup? (i'm using 16awg now) Am I missing something?  Thx!!

just realized that i broke the cardinal rule of posting...not stating my bike specs!

1976 CB750F.  just did a bunch of wiring cleanup.  can't make sense of why the running tail light works w/ the old fusebox, but not the new one!

Take the bulb out and see if the fuse blows.

Have you verified the amp rating of all the fuses? Someone didn't stick a 20A fuse in the old fuse box taillight position did they?

thx for the info guys!  spent some serious hours on the bike this weekend & pretty sure I found the culprit.  the brown tail light lead splits up near the front end of the bike.  that soldered split was exposed, and i think touching (or almost touching) my fork, grounding it out.  wrapped it up and everything seems ok now.  it was literally right in front of my face the whole time.  ;)
