Just curious, we have a soccer match here in Ann Arbor this Saturday, Real Madrid vs Manchester United. My son-in-law was able to get my grandsons into Real Madrid's closed practice today and they managed to get autographs from every team member. While doing so a Spanish TV crew was filming and one of the crew members said they would be all over Spanish TV tomorrow. Just wondering if she was blowing smoke. So, just in case, two boys 8 and 11 and one of them is wearing glasses. Would like to hear if it was true. Thanks.

Don't think he was blowing smoke. Soccer in Spain is something you wouldn't believe. It the TV news last 30 minutes, 15 are devoted to soccer. Cristiano Ronaldo's slightest pain in his left thumb occupies more air time than a gas pipe exploding somewhere in Asia....

Any chance you know the station? All of them have online viewing, I can find it for you and send the link. Too bad I've read it after the morning news but maybe tonight I can find them on the evening news

Mediaset has had the rights of the tournamet Real Madrid has played in. Mediaset has two major TV channels. 99.9% chances they had the exclusive of the Real Madrid coverage

One is "Telecinco".

were the kids any excited? Celebrities are a curious thing, when I lived in US I always thought how less I cared whether I met the whole Broncos or Red Sox teams while many people would die to have the chance...

but believe me, Real Madrid is a big thing over here. Thousand of kinds would kill to have the chance your grandsons have had.

Raul, yes they were very excited. Apparently when the players came onto the field they pretty much ignored the hoard of adult autograph seekers but as soon as they saw the kids they went right over to them. My son-in-law said every one of the players were very kind and gracious.

The beg event has come and gone, my grandsons were thrilled by both the access at practice and the game which they had to share with 109,000+ others.  Unfortunately, the final score left a little to be desired, but had a great time none the less.

Cool! So glad the kids had a good time! My 10 y/o daughter would love to have a picture just like that, she is somewhat in love with the goalkeeper.... :-)

I haven't seen any of the matches -not much of a soccer fan- but I was amazed about how many people attended! I always thought soccer was a minority sport in the US. Theory is that TV channels are not interested because they have less chances of sponsorship being a more "continuous" sport than american football where it takes some time to rearrange for the next move.

I believe big european teams -among them Real Madrid- are more than interested in popularizing soccer in the States. Millions of potential t-shirt buyers and expensive tv-rights. There is much following of Real Madrid and Barcelona in Africa and Asia but they buy asian t-shirts anyway...
