Any adjustable shift levers for a 750?
« on: August 10, 2014, 07:13:16 AM »
I've got a false neutral if I don't shift with conviction on my '75 750 so the good advice is to lower the shift lever so you can pull up harder. The problem is I had to adjust it to allow my biggest boots under. Then if I have different footwear I still have the same problem. My wife's dirt bike has a nifty little gizmo you turn a little screw on a linkage and the resting height of the shift lever can easily be changed up or down (I would think specifically for different boots).

Anything like this for our bikes?

I've got a spare (the rusty original one) but I can't think of how to shorten it. Was it shorter on some other bike?

The shifter takes a lot of abuse, that said, it will be some decent steel and it will not be easy to cut and weld.  Take that back, it will not be easy to weld it and be confident it will hold and last.

From looking at a picture, I say it is a forged piece.  Myself I would measure splines and tried to find an adjustable shifter from another motorcycle.  Did you check with cyclex and/or DCC?  I would expect racers dealing with similar issues.

LOL, I have seen quite few of those who knew wtf they are doing actually stranded because their fix did not last - in jeeping world that is.

I also seen many things welded by people who know wtf they are doing done well and last forever.  If you know wtf you doing, congratulations  ;D

But to search and find a neighbor with a $100 HF buzzbox for something like a shĂfter is asking for trouble.

Shifter splines are very similar across many different bikes. I bet you can pop one of the shifters from a dirt bike on there with no mods
