looking for wiring postions for alternator plug 550F
« on: August 04, 2014, 01:54:50 PM »
Hey guys,

I had bought new stator and field coil hoping that it would solve some charging issues, but it did not so im going to send them back. I had to remove the wires from the stock plug housing in order to make it work with my custom wiring harness, I forgot to take a picture before i removed them . Not sure of the order in which they go back into the housing, can anybody help me out with that?

Thanks

Snap a picture of the "custom side" of your harness plug.

Here's the stock wiring diagram. I'm unclear whether the "custom" plug you snapped is the battery side of the block connection or the alternator side? It looks like your Rr connector?

the first photo is from the alternator side, same wires as the second photo only different housing.

Sorry Cal, Im unsure how to interpret that diagram .

I would think the three yellows go side by side in one of the rows.

Then the green by it self in the middle row?

Then white, grn/red, and blu/red?

under which wire does the solo green sit?

Are your colors not matched on the other side? It doesn't matter which yellow goes to which yellow, the other colors do matter. Is that your question?

The positions within the plug are irrelevant. What is relevant is the other side of the connection. Color-to-color.

the other side (harness side) is a"custom" wiring housing and matches up with my alternator side connection (first photo). The first picture posted is the alternator side with the "custom" housing. the second picture posted is the alternator side with the stock wire housing.

I had aquired a new alternator so I took off the stock housing and put on the "custom" housing to match the "custom" wiring harness.

I am now sending back the alternator that i just got so I want to put the stock housing back on, I just dont know the order in which the wires are supposed to go back.

Sorry, I know its pretty confusing. I just want to send it back the way it came to me.

Thanks

Gotcha. I have a stock, unmolested unit sitting at the house, still attached to a motor. Problem is, I'm 400 miles from home and can't give this to you until the am. Can you wait until then, and I'll give you really clear pictures and diagram to match?

A promised:

The green wire on the bottom row, next to BL/RD is actually GR/RD. The GRN is between BL/RD and YL. Hope these help!
