78f rearset brackets and brake
« on: August 04, 2014, 09:10:32 PM »
I've got universal levers, a set of universal linkage but I don't even know where to start with finding or making brackets, and the master cylinder is particularly overwhelming. Any advice to steer me in the right direction?

Check out www.cognitomoto.com for some rear set relocating brackets. Else, Devin may be able to help you fab the brackets.

+1 on cognito moto. That's where I got mine from. I used to have the Tarozzi mounts but they felt a little too high and back for my liking on my CB500. Check out http://www.fastfromthepast.com/ to see if they might work for you. He also has all the linkage parts you might need for the brake and shift levers.

just about, Raask makes bolt on rearsets for this bike...you may be able to look at pics of these and get an idea how to fab your own brackets

There was a thread a while ago about rearsets and ergonomics and such. Some folk have just 'flipped' the pegs on the 78F which apparently sets them back a couple of inches from stock position. Not too sure what 'flipped' means exactly, but might be worth considering as a no-cost option. Of course if it's not the look you want this may be of little help to you.

I've flipped the pegs on my F2, and while it does set the pegs a little further back (I'd say an inch and a half) it doesn't bring them up any, which also needs to happen.  I found that it was just easier to drag them in the corners, and the position wasn't much better than stock.

I've thought about trying to fab rearset brackets out of the existing F brackets, that could be an option to pursue as well if you can manipulate aluminum.

I ended up making a set for mine. They are not extremely high or set very far back. There are, of course, modifications required....
A lathe was the only necessary tool. All the rest was done by hand on a ban saw and with a drill.

That's really nice work Mr. Silverback.
I recently restored and sold a 77 cb750f, and am nearly finished with a (former basket case) cb750k5.  This is a place to share, learn and enjoy.  I am grateful to and for 99+% of this site's membership.
